Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Shit is getting interesting. Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson to the Magic for Alston, Battie, and Lee. This also pretty much means they won't resign Turk and he will probably go to the Blazers. Blazers are also talking about trading for Hinrich. Danny Ferry might have to make another move.

So the Magic are basically trading Lee and Turk for Vince Carter???

Not sure Danny Ferry really needs to react to that. If they resign Turk, then yeah, we've got serious problems. But that's a downgrade for the Magic as a team.

That gives them:

1: Jameer Nelson
2: Vince Carter
3: Rashard Lewis
4: ? Gortat?
5: Dwight Howard

That's a pretty nasty lineup if they can get a 6th man and another big to start with Howard.
EDIT: Assuming they do not resign Turk.

If they do resign Turk its matchup problems galore...however who is the "go-to" guy with those four plus Turk?

Gortat might be gone as well as someone (perhaps the Knicks) will want to pay him starter money. Vince is a better player than Turk just in the fact that he can penetrate. The Magic could sign Turk but they would be essentially be paying him a minimum of 20 mil a year with a 10 mil salary and dollar for dollar tax.

How about playing a little bit of Z at the 4 with Shaq at the 5? The interesting scenario in the finals was that Gasol couldn't match up with Lewis at the 4, but Lewis got dominated by Gasol even worse when trying to defend him in the post. Anderson Varajeo was a huge liability b/c he couldn't defend Lewis, but equally as bad, he couldn't score and wasn't a threat taking jump-shots.

I'm not calling for a starting line-up of Shaq and Z, but I think at times it could be an interesting change of pace. Let Z float on the perimeter and crash the glass, with Shaq manning the paint.

Okay so Turk is gone...

Yeah I'll take Vince over Turk anyday...maybe they can move Pietrus into a starting postion...but that leaves they're bench very weak.

In either case I think both the Cavs and Orlando made themselves better. The Laker sold they're first pick to the Knicks for 3 million cash...which frees them up to sign both Ariza and Odom hopefully.

What I worry about with that lineup is that if they are both in Lebron's driving lanes are going to be severely lessened. I don't think that Mike Brown can manage both 7 footers in the game at the same time...Phil Jackson did it...but then again he's Phil Jackson.

I say rotate the two to help assure that they'll still have they're legs under them come playoff time.

And a healthy Boston team. It might be a year or two early, but even without Turk the Blazers are also shaping up real well, and the Spurs also got better. Next year is gonna be crazy.

They could move to Pietrus to a starting position but that leaves Reddick as your 6th man. :yow1: Ryan Anderson could play the 4 also.

IF they were to play together, Z wouldn't log the lane. He could float. I don't see it happening much, if at all, but I think it could be an interesting match-up problem for opposing teams. That'd be a lot of size on the glass.

Carter will destroy the chemistry of that team as did Iverson for the Pistons. What has Vince Carter ever won? Nothing.
Because he has been on shitty teams. The Magic get what they lacked with Turk and Lewis in someone that can penetrate and get to the whole. Now the Magic have a legit go to guy.

Boston is healthy, true, but they haven't found the elixer of youth so we'll see about them. The Lakers, I think, are still the class of the NBA pending the resignings of Odom and Ariza. The Blazers are trying to pick up Kirk Hinrich I hear?

Other names to look out for as trade bait are Jordan Farmar and :dunh dunh duunnnnnh: Tracy McGrady, Elton Brand, Josh Howard.

And lets remember that A.I. is still out there...

Carter is not that type of player...he is aging gracefully in the NBA...something that AI never did. I think Carter is a good pickup because he at least keeps his ego in check.

Cavs Still Have #46 Pick Tonight

In a twist of events, the Cavs still have the #46 pick tonight that they gave up in the Shaq trade.

Windhorst has the details.

On a technicality, the Cavs could not send the Phoenix Suns their second-round pick, the 46th overall, in addition to Sasha Pavlovic and Ben Wallace plus cash to complete the trade. So the Cavs will now keep that pick and instead send the Suns next season's second-round pick.
That selection, though, is protected if it is in the top 40 picks. If it is, the Suns will get the Cavs second round pick in 2011.
It was held up because the Cavs already had a standing deal with the Miami Heat involving the 46th pick. The Cavs got it from the Bulls two years ago and it was involved in the trade last year to get Darnell Jackson. The Miami Heat ended up with the Cavs' second-round pick, No. 60, in that trade. In the swap for Jackson the Heat were assured the lower of the Cavs' two second round picks and to make that deal they had to promise they would not trade either pick.
So basically: we likely end up giving the Suns a very late 2nd round pick, instead of giving up #46.
