CLEVELAND A wide-open dunk awaited Ben Wallace late Thursday night against the Bulls. So wide open, the "Big Ben Bell" began to chime inside Quicken Loans Arena as the crowd started to roar in anticipation.
But GONG gave way to CLANG in an instant. Wallace got denied by the rim. A stunned groan from the sellout crowd of 20,562 quickly overtook the suddenly muffled sound of the bell ringing ? a perfect signature to a game the Cavs gave away.
The Bulls rallied from 17 points down late in the third to beat the Cavs, 101-98. It kept alive Chicago's ever faint playoff hopes, while preventing Cleveland from further securing itself as the fourth seed.
"It's frustrating," Cavs Head Coach Mike Brown said. "We're up 17 late and we had plenty of opportunities to put the game away."
The Cavs (42-34) lost momentum late in the third and then went scoreless for the game's final 3:31. It resulted in just their second loss in their last 12 home games. It's also the largest lead the Cavs have blown since squandering an 18-point lead at home to Phoenix in a Jan. 25 loss.
