Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

How would a deal that makes the Cavs better net them a first round pick? I doubt it's Gibson since he isn't going to be doing much of anything for a least the next few weeks. Andy can't be traded. I could see getting a low first for Gooden, but none of these moves make them better. Cut bait with Lebron and rebuild? :p

Cavaliers game day
Cavs bar Ilgauskas from playing overseas
Insurance would not cover player if he gets hurt

INDIANAPOLIS: This heartwarming tale has a major hitch.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas talked warmly Tuesday about telling a contingent from the Lithuanian National Team, which was in the United States last week, that he planned on playing for his country in this summer's Olympics.
The Cavaliers, however, are putting the brakes on. For the moment, and maybe longer, the club is barring Ilgauskas from playing for his national team.

Cavaliers report
Cavs' front office considers big trade as deadline nears
By Brian Windhorst
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Thursday, Feb 21, 2008
INDIANAPOLIS: By 3 p.m. today, the Cavaliers' roster could look very different. Or not.
Two league sources said the Cavs' front office is mulling over a blockbuster trade ahead of today's trading deadline. It is a complex deal, because for it to make sense, a second complimentary trade would probably need to be accomplished, too.
Another potential hitch could be haggling over a first-round draft pick the Cavs are also looking to acquire.
This potential deal is not part of the Cavs' pursuit of Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Mike Miller. The Cavs have made offers to the Grizzlies for Miller, but a league source indicated Wednesday that the Grizzlies were leaning toward not trading Miller based on the offers they'd received.

Possible names, although I'm rather skeptical about any major deals:

Vince Carter (ugh)
Ben Wallace (ugh)
Ron Artest (yes)
Michael Redd (just a dream but would be great)
Joe Johnson (love him)

These were all names that I've seen on various sites. I really can't think of a deal that would be a 'blockbuster' , yet still net them a 1st rounder.

the prevailing rumors are that Z is going to a western conference team for a player and a pick, or that hughes is going to NJ for vince carter and a 1st, in which cleveland would send their 1st to Portland for Jack. Carter may have one of the only contracts in the NBA that is worse than Hughes', and it's a year longer.

however, carter can still light it up at times when healthy, and playing with LBJ may put some wind back in his sails.

In addition to the Carter trade, the other rumored blockbusters include Kirilenko and the Jazz and JO and the Pacers and Redd and the Bucks.

My head is spinning... Z to the Western Conference? Who will be our center? Or does this have anything to do with old rumors about the Cavs being interested in Eddie Curry?

Vince Carter for Hughes? Not bad... but aren't we just helping the Nets get cap room to try to get LeBron in 2010?

The thing though is alot of these last minute rumors never come true.

No way do I want Carter over Hughes. He's playing his best since he's been here and no way do I want to choke up the future by paying Carter 22M more than Hughes, in one more year. That contract sucks major dick.

Jermaine O'neal is hurt, so count him out.

The only Western Conference team that needs a center is Dallas and they have nothing left to trade, after giving away 2 firsts to New Jersey.

Joe Johnson
Raymond Felton
Ben Gordon
Luol Deng
D Wade
Michael Redd
Chris Paul
Amare Stoudemire
Raja Bell
Chris Bosh
Tj Ford
Deron Williams

They're all free agents after the 09/10 season. Why pay 17M for Vince Carter when you can save the money and get one or more among these guys? Fuck Carter!!! Don't do it.

They need to be smart.

I highly doubt Z goes out west. It is looking more and more like Redd might be the Blockbuster deal. Just rumors, but there is word going around that the O'Neal and Carter trades won't happen, but the same was not said about the Redd trade.
