Injury karma nothing but bad
Gibson joins Gooden, Pavlovic, Varejao on list of sidelined players

ATLANTA: In an effort to ward off bad karma, Cavaliers coach Mike Brown often will look for wood to knock on or even bang his own bald head when making comments about injuries.
It's more than a little corny and it's not working in the least.
The only luck the Cavs have had on the injury front this season has been bad. It might have reached critical mass in Atlanta on Friday, when the club was down four of its rotation's top eight players.

Rebuilding Cavs will take time, patience
Several contracts set to expire in 2008-09

They could get both Pau Gasol and Jason Kidd. Shaquille O'Neal and Mike Bibby at the same time. Andre Miller, Mike Miller and even Shawn Marion together fit the parameters, too.
In theory, the Cavaliers realistically have the bullets to get them all. Which is exactly what fans desperate for help for LeBron James want to hear. But here's what they don't: None of it is probably going to happen now.
The NBA trading deadline is less than two weeks away, and it isn't that General Manager Danny Ferry has decided to stand pat, it has been decided for him. As of this moment, the Cavs just don't have what other teams want. But it won't always be that way.

We need to make something happen soon. I don't know how much interest LeBron has in staying with us.

As far as tonights contest, what the hell? Why are we GIVING them the traditional three point play?

Hughes, Z, and a few others, have just absolutely given them to them, with shots that WILL fall, and did.

Other than that, without Boobie and floopy the fish, we're playing pretty ok.

I don't understand why everyone is so doom and gloom about Lebron. The Cavs are handcuffed against a big move this year, but they will have plenty of room to make a move next year and the year after that. Only Gibson, hopefully Andy, and maybe Gooden will be on the books When Lebron's contract is up. That will leave them enough money to sign any 1 or 2 players that they want before resigning Lebron and any other players that they want to keep. They will have over 27 mil in expiring contracts next season in case anyone is stupid enough to pull a Gasol type deal. They HAVE to draft well this summer because that is the only way to really build a great team. With the amount of money that Lebron will make when his contract is up the number of teams that could sign him would be small. Not many teams are 20 mil under the cap and any team that is won't be close to a championship. No way will the Cavs sign and trade Lebron.

Agreed with all this...This team is still pretty good when everyone is healthy...Honestly the only team that I am really really scared against in a 7 game series is SA...Does that mean we will for sure win against everyone else...Of course not...Just that I feel that we could beat any other team in the 7 game series...

Disclaimer...Everyone healthy...

If Hughes could play like this consistently he would be worth his contract. Lebron is good enough that he only needs one other star quality player and a bunch of role players. I'd love to see the Bucks suck enough to trade Redd for a couple of the Cavs expiring contracts and a draft pick next year.

edit- If Hughes could play half as well as he did tonight he would be worth it. 40 points!!!!! WTF

Great jobs by Hughes, I still hate him though.

If he can play like this forever, we can't lose.

But, also, we need a few players, soon. Losing LBJ would absolutely kill me, as I've been a Cavs fan forever, and I love LeBron just as much. Without LeBron, essentially, we are the New York Knicks.

As far as the draft, I agree. We MUST do well to be anywhere near pulling a trade- resigning LBJ in 2010 (right?).

A draft like Portland had this year.. That'd glorify us.

If the Cavs lose Lebron, Cleveland loses the Cavs. Sorry, but the fans will not support the team anymore if he's gone. Gilbert has no ties to the city, and when money talks, he'll walk.

The only way I think he leaves is if he thinks we're not committed to winning. I seriously doubt he cares about the money he would earn from endorsements. Lebron should be at the point now where the money he makes from contracts pales in comparison to what he makes from investments.

The Cavs just need to show Lebron they'll do what it takes to win, as long as it's within reason. Hopefully next year we'll be able to get a point guard. Maybe we'll be able to throw Gooden back to Memphis for one of theirs.

Would someone please explain to me how/why Lebron would leave the Cavs?

How?: Chooses not to exercise his player option, then signs as an unrestricted free agent with someone else (Brooklyn?)

Why?: Winning and endorsements. I laugh at people that underestimate the latter. The fact is that Cleveland isn't even a second-rate city anymore. A player's marketability will ALWAYS be strongest in the market in which he plays. Sure, Lebron has strong marketability outside of Cleveland. But it would off-the-charts in the Big Apple.

I think we should try to extend him now, when we get to a high point of the next few years, and sign him through the end of his career, 2020 ish. That way we don't have to fight. What we need to do is what the Lake just did for Kobe.

Brought in a quality Point in D-Fish.

Just gave nada for Gasol.

Team= Championship calibur.

I agree you guys need to get people around LeBron, but I don't think comparing the Lakers to the Cavs is really fair. Fisher was a Laker, he never wanted to leave, and was jumping at the chance to come back. Gasol was a salary dump, we had salaries that were expiring and took a large contract in exchange.

The Cavs need to look seriously into free agency, but since you are in the East the reality is you aren't that bad off. Everyone makes it sound like you have a losing record, but weren't you just in the finals? Unless LeBron decides he wants to be in one of the "dynasty teams" (Lakers, Spurs, Celtics, Bulls, Etc...) then I don't see much of an issue, also, demanding a trade won't send him to one of those teams because those teams would have to seriously gut their teams to take him.

Also, the guy hasn't expressed the desire to leave, he's always said he's where he wants to be, sure, in 6 years if he doesn't have a ring he may want to move on, but that's a long way a way and a lot will happen between now and then, who knows, maybe the Cavs win a couple in that time and all this discussion is for nothing.

Larry with a huge game...I hate to say anything, but for whatever reason he seems to have better form on his jumper, and seems to be getting more lift on the jumper and seems to be doing more than just standing and shooting...

If he plays at a high level on a consistent basis, basically just needs to be effecient...Every one has their off nights, but we need him to have more 20 pt nights shooting the ball 15 times than 12 points shooting the ball 12 times...

The Nets are in no position to win in the near future. They are stuck with Carter for the next 5 years and nobody wants to play with that assclown. They might have enough money to sign Lebron assuming that they get rid of Kidd and don't sign anyone, but what good is a team with Carter, Jefferson, and Lebron? If Kidd can't win with those two Lebron can't. If he leaves it would be for a team that has a long way to go to challenge for a championship. He would also have to take less money and less years to go someplace other than Cleveland. The same thing that kept Redd and Ray Allen for signing with the Cavs when they had their first shot at FA will keep Lebron in Cleveland. As I said the next two years are greatly important to the future of Lebron, but as long as Ferry and Gilbert show Lebron that they will do whatever it takes to build a winner around him he has no reason to leave. With the contracts that they have on the books right now there is nothing they can do to make a move.
I'm no expert on the NBA salary structure, but I think most of you have less of a clue than I do.
