Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

I understand what you are guys are saying, but just here me out...

I for one think that Hughes is a black hole...He shoots and shoots and never stops, and really he doesnt make a whole lot of shots...

Nights he is on, we are one of the top 2 teams in the East with the Celtics...

When he is not on it can get very ugly...

But honestly look at what we have to deal with when he is not in the lineup...

You put Boobie in the starting lineup and lose any form of bench other than Devin Brown...

This was what killed us last night...When we went to the bench in the first quarter I believe that we were up by 12 pts or so...The lead quickly dwindled one because DJ was getting tore up on the defensive end and two we couldnt score...

We continue to have to keep LBJ on the court and get him no rest...Look at Milk. last night, they took Redd out at his hottest point and left the scoring up to guys that other than Mo Williams wouldnt start for us...

Really it is just the fact that last year we went the whole season without playing DJ and Newble, but very seldomly and this year they are getting 20+ minutes a game...

Honestly at this point we go a solid 6 deep...The rest of the guys wouldnt win an NBADL championship...

I don't want Hughes back because I think he is a great shooter, I want him back because he is a capable scorer, that teams have to pay attention to, he can defend better than the guys we are putting out there...Him and LBJ have learnt to play together...And last but not least it allows us to Bring Boobie off the bench and provide scoring when the second teamers get out there, and should allow for more rest for LBJ...

So I stand by my point, this team is better with Larry than without him...Now if we were to trade him and bring in a proven NBA player that could provide the things I listed above, I would be first in line ahead of all you guys wanting the trade...

Bottom line is this is a pretty average basketball team. One superstar, an up and comer in Boobie, a few average players and little depth. They rode a determined LBJ and a hot Boobie to the finals last summer and were completely overwhelmed. They peaked last year and until some improvements are made they've bounced off their ceiling. I'd say 40-45 wins this season and a 6-8 seed in the postseason unfortunately.

While they did peak last year, I am not ready to say only 40-45 wins...

We have opened the season with a very tough schedule so far...2 against the Jazz, also have played Dallas, and then the the rest of the west coast swing...

Yeah we lost a game we should of lost last night, but really Milk. played a great game, and we didnt have the D to stop them...

With LBJ this team can beat anyone, maybe not in a 7 game series, but on any given night...They even said this morning that his supporting cast is underrated...

Z and drew provide great rebounding on both ends of the floor, the problem is at the moment there is no one to bring in off the bench, and that is the same with the front court...

We will see if Ferry can pull something out midseason or maybe someone will get cut, but if we had a bench I think we would be the second best team int he East...Also with everyone healthy...

Cavaliers game day
Shortage of depth a 'big' issue
Despite injuries, Varejao's holdout, Cavs reluctant to make changes to roster
By Brian Windhorst Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND: The term ''big man'' is becoming relative around the Cavaliers these days. At this point, it applies to anyone standing 6-foot-7 or taller.
Following their loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night, the Cavs announced Donyell Marshall will be out 6-8 more weeks after receiving a cortisone shot in his injured right wrist.
Add that to a new left ankle injury to forward Cedric Simmons, a mild sprain that might cost him all four games this week, and the Cavs are left with virtually no depth behind starters Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Drew Gooden. And signs point to the team rolling the dice as no trades or player pickups appear imminent.

calling hughes a capable scorer is laughable.

he's a capable scorer in the same vain that i can run a 4.4 40.
it's possible if i have a gale force wind at my back, and i'm running down hill with a 90 year old man working the stopwatch.

as an aside, cleveland averages 100 ppg with hughes in the lineup, and 103.5 with him out.

the cavs give up 107.1 with him in the line-up, and 100.6 with him out.

cleveland is 2-4 in games he plays, and 3-2 when he doesn't.

so, statistically, there is no argument that can be made that hughes makes the cavs better.

His career average is 15pts/game...I would say that is a very capable NBA scorer...

Like I have said he is not a great shooter, but lets get real many NBA teams would be hurt if they lost a player on their team that was a career 15pts/game player...

I guess i just don't understand or can't see how we can be a better team without him...I understand the frustration that he brings to watching the game, but don't understand how we are a better team with him not being able to play...

I'm in favor of bringing Hughes off the Bench when he comes back. Give him 20-30 minutes a game to come in bust his ass on D and see if he has it on offense. The 1 out of 15 game when he has his shot let him play more. If anything they needed him on the defensive end more last night to try to stop the Bucks. Redd has one of his games that he is going to make everything he throws up there and unfortunately for the Cavs he wasn't alone. Hughes might have been able to harass Redd better than the other guys they had covering him. Lebron is going to wear himself out if he continues to play the whole game and has to take the hardest defensive assignment at crunch time. I wouldn't dislike Hughes as much if he didn't jack up a ton of shots regardless if he is shooting well. I'm hoping Pavs gets back to form soon because he isn't doing much right now. I'd say the Cavs are pretty much a 4 man team at the moment. Z and Gooden are giving about as much as they can give, and Gibson continues to impress most of the time. I love the touch he has driving to the basket. At least a couple time last night he drove, got fouled, and put the ball in anyway. If they are going to do anything in the playoffs this year they are going to need to get another good player before the trading deadline.

you don't understand how cleveland can be a better team without him, despite the statistical evidence that shows you such. i don't know what to tell you.

Their best bet may be a sign and trade with Wild Thing. I'm liking what little I've seen of Simmons so far. He has some potential.

we are just looking at 11 games...

I mean we all know that basically this team is LBJ or nothing, but without Hughes we don't really have another guy, that can put the ball on the floor and do something with it...

Boobie is getting there, and Sasha is really struggling right now...

IMO Hughes makes the team better, I guess we aren't ever going to agree on this one either way...

I doubt that.

LBJ is playing really good ball right now, nice win tonight.

apparently not. i suppose scoring more, giving up fewer points, and having a better record in his absense isn't enough evidence for you.

i can't wait until i see the guy averaging 10 shots per game, while shooting 29% back on the floor. what a boost.
