Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

And getting rid of Z.. I wouldn't like it one bit.. The dude is getting up there, no doubt, but he still has 3 years as a great shooter and one of LBJs besties.

Maybe a couple other cast players for O'Neil, but I hope it wouldn't be Z, West, or Boobie.

Z + Varejao + No. 19 pick for Jermaine O'Neal?
Z has at least one more good year left
AV has lots
#19 hopefully has lots
and I'm not sure if Jermaine hasn't seen his last good year

I'd do #19 for O'Neal straight up .. oh OK. I'll throw in both Jones' and Sasha

Discourse on Cavaliers still lingering Fans getting desperate about LeBron's contract
Published on Tuesday, May 27, 2008
Normally when basketball season ends, Northeast Ohioans just shrug and move right on to anticipating what sports fans can expect from the Browns in the coming season.
Notice I wrote ''normally.''
Something has clearly changed in the psyche of the local sports fan. A prolonged listen at sports-talker WKNR (850-AM) proves that.
Listening to the station in the past few days, it's clear that after the basketball season, hoops remain on the tongues of fans.
You can hear scathing critiques of the end of the season after the Cavs were bounced by the Boston Celtics. What's behind it? A sense of urgency.
With LeBron James having two years left on his contract, basketball fans sense that a window might be closing, slowly but surely.
Many have invested emotionally and intellectually in the prospect that James is the chosen one to deliver the first major sports championship to the area in more than three decades.

Plain Dealer columnist Terry Pluto shares what he wishes Cleveland Cavaliers' Dan Gilbert, Danny Ferry and Mike Brown will say to each other about LeBron James and the Cavs

Thursday, May 29, 2008
The Cavaliers are having their organizational meetings this week in Orlando, Fla., as they also scout prospects at the pre-draft camp near Disney World. I have no idea what any of the key people will actually say to each other, but here is the script for what I wish they would talk about.
Owner Dan Gilbert: Listen, guys, our payroll was $81 million, fourth-highest in the NBA. I promised not to do basketball, that's your department. I'm doing business here. A second-round exit, and especially 45 wins, is not a great return on that investment. We've got to get back to at least 50 wins so we can have that Game 7 in the second round at home. So what do we need?
Coach Mike Brown: We need someone who can create his own shot in the backcourt.

ESPN - Draft Watch: Is Mayo the No. 2 pick? - NBA

I think Z, Sasha, and the 19th pick would be more reasonable. AV is an energy guy plus a defensive presence. We need him.

Also I would get rid of Damon Jones and Eric Snow (if he isn't gone already) to free up some cap room.

Also, relook the contracts of Ben Wallace and Joe Smith.

Like I said before Baron Davis or Gilbert Arenas are not viable options. Both are prone to injury and not that great on defense.

Guys we can't trade the first round pick...We didn't have one last year and you can't do that two years in a row...
just for clarification... can we trade the pick to move up in round 1 vs not being able to touch the pick at all?

there was a rumor at hoopshype.com saying...

Wally
Joe Smith
Anderson Varajao
Next years #1

for:

Bobby Simmons
Michael Redd

I'd do it.....

and the Bucks want expiring contracts to build around Yi and Bogut apparently.

I would do that...That would allow us to take a big guy with the pick in the first round to develop behind Z...

Would also give us the best backcourt we have had since LBJ got here...

West and Redd...
