Cavs 07-08 Season Thread

BuckeyeMafia;1139157; said:
I don't see us beating Washington in less than 7. We just beat Miami by 8.

We just didn't look like we cared that much about this game for whatever reason...

There was many tip ins we missed, many layups, lazy defense, lazy passes, and just bad shots...

LBJ got pissed at one point and said something along the lines of pick this shit up, and we got a steal and then a three and took an 8 point lead in the second quarter, but then we went back to not trying and Miami got back in the game...We knew we were better and just didn't play hard...It has been the problem with us ever since LBJ has been here...He flips the switch in the playoffs, just hope that everyone else can...

LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers hold off Miami Heat

Team chemistry still lacks spark
Monday, April 14, 2008Branson Wright
Plain Dealer Reporter
The Cavaliers managed to steal a home victory over the lowly Miami Heat on Sunday evening, but the wait for that spark to lead them into the playoffs continues.
Even ex-Cav Ricky Davis, now with the Heat, said his former squad does not have the appearance of a postseason team. Something is still missing.
"They're not as polished as they used to be before the trade," Davis said.

Cleveland Cavaliers to meet Washington Wizards in playoffs again

Monday, April 14, 2008 Branson Wright

Plain Dealer Reporter
The Detroit Pistons' victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday assured the Cavaliers of facing the Washington Wizards in the first round of the playoffs.
Game 1 is either at The Q or in Washington on Saturday or Sunday. The Cavs are currently the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, and they hold a two-game lead over the Wizards with two games left.
This is the third straight year the Cavs and Wizards will play in the first round, but it will be the first time LeBron James will get the opportunity to respond to the "overrated" comments directed at James by Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson following the Cavs' loss to the Wizards on March 13.

Web sites attempting to lure Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James to New York appear to have Cleveland connections

Monday, April 14, 2008Jodie Valade
Plain Dealer Reporter
Cleveland sports fans are accustomed to heartbreak (The Drive, The Shot, etc.) and betrayal (Jim Thome, Carlos Boozer, etc.). They have even seen the worst of both traits in one grumbling package (Art Modell).
But until now, Cleveland sports fans have not seen the enemy emerge from their own Northeast Ohio back yard.
Traitorous former Clevelanders appear to be behind two Web sites recently launched with the aim of enticing Cavaliers star LeBron James to play for the New York Knicks when James is a free agent in 2010.

Based solely on the scoring numbers I would take the scoring from yesterday's game as long as Lebron can get up to his 30 pts a game. If you pick Boobie and Z up to their percentages as well and the Cavs are scoring 110+. I really want them to win today so Lebron won't need to play Wednesday.

This is going to be pure optimism...So maybe some should tune it out, but just a thought...

Our team is truly built more for the playoffs than regular season...We have a superstar that plays a ton of minutes and at times in an 82 game season gets bored with having to score and create all the time for teammates, thus with a nagging injury he has taken some breaks, relaxed a little on the court and just tried to let other guys take care of business...You see where this has gotten us...It has got us to losing to teams we shouldn't lose to and beating teams that we probably shouldn't of beat if you look at our record...These are the games when LBJ comes to play...

Come playoff time when defense is truly at a premium we will step up...That is when LBJ won't be taking plays off and letting guys that have no business getting around him beat him to the hole...He will be in passing lanes and getting steals...Z and Big Ben will be able to go all out as well, knowing they don't have to pace themself for many more games as the season is winding down...

Boobie seems to show up on big stages...I am hoping he does this year as well...Same with Wild Thing as he feeds off these types of situations and his defensive energy and timely buckets can provide energy for the team and crowd to feed off of...Sasha seems to also play better in times like this as well and we will need his defense...Also don't be surprised if DJ steps up and hits a big shot as well...

Not sure what to expect from Delonte, Wally, and Smith...haven't seen them in situations like this, but hoping that with Wally and Smith they show their veteran leadership and make some plays and Delonte plays like he has down the stretch...

Ok that is a lot of optimism in one post, but this team is built for the playoffs and not the regular season...

The Wizards will be tough, but I see us getting them in 5 or 6...

Then the Celtics...

I like the pg matchup West vs. Rondo...
I think Brown, and LBJ against Pierce and Allen will be a good matchup as we have the best of the 4 players, but they have the best combo...Brown and Sahsa can provide D on one of them...
Wallace will probably guard Wallace and I think Wallace can limit him some...Wild Thing will provide defense on Garnett as well...
Z against Perkins is a win for us and hopefully Z can get some easy buckets...

Overall it is not as big of a gap as many might think...Also if Wally, Boobie, West, and Sasha can knock down shots from the outside that will open the floor for LBJ to penetrate and Z to operate in the paint...

What an ending...Glad we got the win...Now we can rest against the Pistons...Also it was great to win one on the road...

Don't like losing Sasha tho...Have to figure he will be out for sure the Wizards series...I was so happy to see Brown go back to the starting lineup with him in it...

As for not being excited about the playoffs see my post above...

Pavs got hurt?

Yep he took a jumper and landed on the defenders foot and rolled his ankle, x-rays were negative...

What happened at the end?

LBJ drove to the hole and got fouled, no call, but Devin got the rebound and Dalenbert just threw a shoulder into him...Not really sure if the refs blew the whistle as it was real loud, but they went back to the monitor after the 6ers had left the floor and saw that Brown was fouled with time left on the clock so they brought them back from the locker room and Brown made both free throws to win it...It was a good job by the refs IMO...If in fact they did blow the whistle, but you would have to think they wouldn't go to the monitor if they didn't...Dalenbert knew he fouled him as well...

We beat a decent team by 1- whatever- we're the 4 seed. Kill those punks.

Glad to see us get one on the road...We will be ready for Washington...

LeBron: Bryant deserves MVP Cavs' star in mix, but says Lakers' star is and has been league's best
By Brian Windhorst
Beacon Journal sportswriter

Published on Tuesday, Apr 15, 2008

PHILADELPHIA: The Most Valuable Player ballots are due at the NBA office in New York by Thursday afternoon. LeBron James doesn't have an official vote, but he's got a pretty strong opinion.
He is in the mix and one of his best friends in the league, Chris Paul, has an excellent chance of winning it in what is expected to be a very close race. Yet James, as he has done numerous times in his career, is deferring to Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant. He didn't take long to think about it, either.
''I'd give it to Kobe,'' James said. ''What he's done this whole year, to carry that team to the No. 1 team in the West right now. He's playing his best basketball all around. I've watched him the whole year. I saw it last summer when I played with him with USA Basketball and the sacrifices he's made for the team and he's done that with the Lakers.''
