Cavs 06-07 season thread

Pavlovic with another huge game. The way he is playing I would move Hughes if they can find a deal for him. I just can't figure out why it is so easy for him to get to the hoop and the other guys seem to have much more trouble. Having guys like Gibson and Pavlovic out there really opens up the floor for everyone else.

Reasons I love Sasha:

1. He doesn't complain when he doesn't get any playing time. He played well last year when Larry was out, then got several DNP's directly after Larry returned.

2. He doesn't settle for jumpshots. We know he can shoot but he does a great job of making sure he gets high percentage shots and will wait to take an outside shot when LBJ drives and dishes.

3. His slashing ability. Unlike Larry, he uses this skill frequently instead of doing number 2.

4. Efficiency. Doesn't need to handle the ball to create and doesn't need much time to be effective.

5. His work ethic. Some of you may not know, but he practiced alone at the Q this summer for 4 extra hours a day.

6. He lights you up when you least expect it.

In the last 7 games, Sasha is averaging 15 points per game in only 25 minutes.

Once we starting sending 2 guys at Kobe the Lakers were lost and then LBJ starting creating for the other guys, which they stepped up huge.

Wild thing and Sasha were easily the best players today...

I can't only imagine Sasha's stock around the league at the moment, but I really don't want to get rid of him...If we have to send anyone get rid of Hughes or Gooden...

It's getting to the point that I'd be thrilled if we could find somebody to take Hughes off of our hands.

I have been thinking the same thing, but he did play good D on Kobe in the first half and if he can stay healthy and attack the rim he can also be a very good player...

If they play like they have been I think they can be very effective with the team we have right now unless the right deal comes along...

What a difference a couple of weeks makes.

First Brown realizes that Pavlovic is ready for pt. I'm not sure why, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he made the decision for a good reason.

Snow finally sits and Gibby starts. Snow is still getting too much pt. He should be in the 15-18 minute range. Gibby should be 22-25.

D. Jones should beand is the odd man out. He's only good for 1 thing and if Gibby and Sasha can do the same (or better), why should he even play at all, other than in garbage time? He doesn't seem like the type to play only 5 minutes a game without rocking the boat.

Grumblings from a few players that they'd be better served by running more. That seems to be happening the last 3 or 4 games.

Varajeo, Gibby and Pavlovic have all increased their games at the same time. Interestingly, all 3 can and do attack the rim. I don't know how Pavlovic does it but he does it quite well.

LBJ seems to like the fact that those 3 have stepped up their games. He knows that if he drives and kicks it out to either Gib or Pavs, that they have a good chance of hitting the 3.

Hughes needs to start attacking the rim more and shooting the long jumper less.

Gooden seems to disappear on offense sometimes, but he always bags hard for rebounds.

I agree with everything besides DJ...I still think he has a part on this team, b/c he brings such character and he needs to at least stay happy and be getting about 10-15 minutes or so a game. I would like to see him split some time at the backup point with Snow...

CLEVELAND - If this keeps up, Sasha Pavlovic's cult following is going mainstream.
Just a few weeks ago, he was as anonymous as ever, cheering on the end of he bench and free to watch the cheerleaders during timeouts.
Early Sunday evening, he was being interviewed live on national television and hailed as a game's hero. A game that contained LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, no less.
Pavlovic and bench cohort Anderson Varejao carried the Cavaliers in an intense fourth quarter as they stormed past the Los Angeles Lakers, 99-90, to claim their third consecutive victory.

Successful homestand comes as surprise for struggling Cavs

By Terry Pluto

CLEVELAND - Do you realize the Cavaliers just finished their homestand winning four out of five games?
I didn't.
It seemed like so much was going wrong.
LeBron James is in the worst slump of his four-year pro career. Guys are clanging foul shots. Some players want to revamp the offense at midseason.

Cavaliers game day

Eric Snow likes role of playing off bench

Cavs' veteran captain says he's better suited to second-unit action

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - Eric Snow is starting to warm up to staying in his warm-ups.
The Cavaliers' veteran captain handled his move to the bench in favor of Daniel Gibson like a professional, offering nothing but support even if breaking his run of 139 consecutive starts hurt on the inside. Now, used to the idea, he is starting to find himself in favor of it.

Cavs climb from quagmire
Monday, February 12, 2007
BY Mike Popovich REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER

CLEVELAND The Cavaliers were falling into a quagmire. And Kobe Bryant was doing his best to sink them for good.
With their team facing one heck of a mess, Sasha Pavlovic and Anderson Varejao came to the rescue. Sunday's 99-90 win over the Los Angeles Lakers may not have been possible without two of the Cavs' most popular backups.

CAVALIERS INSIDER
Varejao takes his turn at living large

Monday, February 12, 2007 Branson Wright

Plain Dealer Reporter
Forward Anderson Varejao was a major factor for the Cavaliers in the fourth quarter Sunday against the Lakers. He scored 11 of his 12 points in the fourth and all three of his baskets were key. He also shot 5-of-7 from the free- throw line.
"We have four legitimate big men who can play, and on different nights during the week it's going to be someone else's turn," forward Donyell Marshall said. "It was Andy's turn [Sunday]."

Guard scores 13in fourth

Cavs guard scores 13 in fourth, secures win
Monday, February 12, 2007 Branson Wright
Plain Dealer Reporter
The running, dunking, jump-shooting and all-out impressive play of forward Sasha Pavlovic has highlighted the Cavaliers' recent wins, and LeBron James is the least surprised.
"I feel like a prophet," James said. "I've been harping on Sasha for three years now. People were looking at me like I'm crazy and I've always said if Sasha gets the opportunity, he's going to be very good. We go against each other every day in practice and I know what type of player he is, and he's showing it."

After the last few games I more confident in our chances...

We are playing good defense, shooting the ball well, and playing good even tho LBJ isnt scoring...

If he could get his game going along with the way the other guys are playing, we have a shot at doing something...

Ok, as long as the pt came from Snow only.
