Carter talk (split from Billy Price thread)

Chris Carter is far from a very good DL. He's huge and that's it at the moment.

How does one's athleticism change with position? It's technique and fit. Look at Chris Carter...wasn't doing all that well on the OL but appears to be a very good DT.

With the same athletism set, it's usually easier to be a DT than it is an OL, since the DT has the freedom of movement in deciding what he wants to do while the OL has to read and react. I think Price will be just fine at DT...

Did you miss the spring game or the fact that he made it on Urban Meyer's depth chart after only playing the position for a few weeks?

Edit: whoops, this is Billy Price's thread, I didn't realize given the discussion.

I would prefer to see Price say on D and have either Munger or Rodgers fill the interior O-line spot that the staff is apparently looking for.

With the football season being as tenuous as it is and the injury bug trying to land every day, having bodies as backups is crucial. Maybe for one series, maybe for one half maybe for a number of games. He is a work in progress and who knows, given the motivation directed by the new staff he may be a diamond in the rough. But always remember, the proof is in the game day play not talk.

It is better to be well done than well said!

I don't think anyone is saying Carter will be an all-American, but he certainly looks like he can be a capable part of the rotation and bring something to the defensive line that we haven't seen in a long time (massive size combined with better than average quickness off the line- and no, I'm not really counting Hankins in that since he doesn't play NT).

Even being a capable part of the rotation is a nice surprise for Carter given the conditioning concerns and worries about his "fit" in Meyer's system. Compared to a transfer, I think what Carter showed in the spring game and where he is at on the depth chart is very exciting.

I really hope we see Carter and Hankins lined up side by side in the middle of the defensive line this year. I think that would be a lot of fun to watch.
