FERNS, BORLAND AND COUGHLIN GETTING SOME OHIO STATE ATTENTION
After seeing Borland, Fickell headed north to Minnesota and Eden Prairie where linebacker Carter Coughlin calls home. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound linebacker has the Buckeyes in his top three schools.

Top 3 schools (no order):
Minnesota
Oregon
Ohio State

Fickell was on hand to watch Coughlin's basketball game and with a decision expected by Coughlin sometime in February, the timing is important. Oregon has made impressive in-roads into Minnesota in the last few recruiting cycles and has already secured a commitment from the state's top player in 2016, quarterback Seth Green. Currently Minnesota and Ohio State are the only two schools with a crystal ball selection for Coughlin, and the Gophers are the runaway favorite at the moment.

2016 4-Star Visiting Ohio State This Weekend
Coughlin currently has OSU in his top three along with Minnesota and Oregon, but sources believe this is mainly a battle between the Buckeyes and Gophers, with a decision possibly coming in the next month or so.

The hometown Gophers will be tough to beat in this recruitment, as Coughlin's father and grandfather played football for the school, and his mother played tennis there as well.

The Bucks are putting up a good fight though, as Coughlin still isn't 100-percent on his decision and is at least giving Ohio State one last look. He has developed a good relationship with Luke Fickell during the recruiting process, as well as Buckeyes' head coach Urban Meyer.

Rocking my number, love it. Hopefully we can land Carter but if not, would love to see him stay in-state at Minnesota (where he was leaning pretty heavy before this weekend).

By Joseph....Recaps his recent OSU visit, which went really well. Was able to spend a lot of time with Coach Fickell & has a great relationship with him. Will visit Minnesota on March 7th and wants to make a decision shortly after that visit. Grew up wanting to be a Gopher, but Ohio State has given him a lot to consider.

Also lists Oregon in his top three, but this is a Minnesota-OSU battle...

Will be an easy kid to root for, whatever his decision. Great comments about OSU and can never fault a kid for going with his childhood favorite/hometown team if that's what he decides to do.

It's telling that with a small class expected at LB (2 or 3) the Buckeyes are still making Coughlin a big early priority. If he and Ferns commit, the Buckeyes could conceivably be done with LB for 2016 very early.

I like the Buckeyes recruiting angle here. If he wanted to be a doctor and got into somewhere like Johns Hopkins, he probably wouldn't choose to pass up that opportunity to stay home and go to Minnesota. So why not make a similar decision when he wants to be a football player and OSU is arguably the top FB school in the country?
