Carson Palmer (Arizona Cardinals)

There are Buckeye fans in Cincinnati, BUT just beneath the surface most of them are Notre Dame fans waiting for the second coming and/or the rebirth of the Irish. It is not a college football town. UC hasn't drawn squat until the last couple of years. Xavier fans are quick to point out that they haven't lost a football game since 1979 or some such number, when the school dropped football. Basketball loyalties get devided 3 ways, UC, XU and UK, with UK far and away the most prevalent.

It's a very European city in that folks are born here, expect to go to the same Catholic high school that great, great granddad/grandma went to, then go to UC or XU and then get a job with P&G and start the whole cycle all over again. They leave Cincinnati when they have to and they come back ASAP.

Having grown up in Dayton, where the motto was, "Dayton, a great place to be FROM," I was shocked when I moved down here and discovered how entrenched famalies are. Historically, the great German invasion that took place during the 19th century brought Germans from Bavaria and the other southern, Catholic, principalities. Dayton and Columbus attracted Germans from the northern, Lutheran and Mennonite, principalities. It's reflected in the number and size of the Catholic high schools in the three cities.

As for Carson, I'm trying to figure out where the hell he's finding all these Buckeye fans to get upset with. They're not many on the Bengals team. He's probably catching shit from all the damn Domers who are OSU fans for the time being, just until Mr. Strategic Advantage gets things sorted out.

I wouldn't blame him if he were just trying to find a way out of this loser francise. God, do they suck.

I have a hard time believing Palmer has to listen to Buckeyes talk all the time. I've lived in Cincy for ten years, and I can't name one person from here who can name five players on the current roster. The number of Bengal fans who really support OSU probably wouldn't fill an entire row of a section at PBS. !

you are so full of crap with this statement. You need to get out more.

If we ever start a "Bulletin Board Material" thread, Carson's garbage would be a nice starter piece to get the fire going.

He better give Sanchez some advice on how to take a REAL hit before the game, seeing as though it'll be his 2nd collegiate start ever.

Hell, bengals fans are so few in number that they can't fill any section of PBS regardless of college allegances.

If I'm not mistaken the largest crowd EVER at PBS was for the OSU - UC game in 03. The playoff game against the Steelers may have finally surpassed it.

The natives were stunned when so many people showed up for that game. It would be a major recruiting coup if the Bucks would come down here every four years or so. Hell, play Miami here once in a blue moon. Do something to bring Scarlet and Gray to this part of Ohio.

.

In 2007 the NFL reported that the Bengals were among a group of 17 of the league's 32 teams that had sold out their regular season home games entirely through season tickets. The 2007 season was the fourth straight that all Bengals games were sold out and the second consecutive year in which all preseason games were sold out as well.

The last regular-season Bengals home game not to sell out was Nov. 9, 2003 vs. Houston. The streak began the next week, with attendance of 64,923 on Nov. 16 vs. Kansas City.
The Bengals will open the 2008 season with a streak of 36 consecutive sellouts (regular and postseason games), and a fifth straight season of sellouts will establish a new team record of 44 sellouts at this season's home finale, surpassing the prior mark of 43 set from 1988-1992 at Riverfront Stadium.

The Bengals are on a current streak of sellouts that dates back to the 2004 season and during the lost decade of the 90's they still averaged over 50,000 per game (56,000 seat Riverfront Stadium)...not bad for a team that sucked.

your statement doesn't make sense. But what do I know? I'm just a Colerain/UC grad.

Obviously you don't spend much time in cincy, or at bengals game. If there are no osu fans at bengals games why is it when the ohio state marching band comes and performs, it the fans stay at half time and watch the game, or stand up and cheer and clap along for script ohio. Why is it at the end of the third quarter of ever game people get up and sing along to hang on sloopy? There are quite a few buckeye fans in cincy, and it is even more so since osu has been really good recently.

your baiting used to at least have a grain of factual truth

this was treated as a bigger deal on College Football Live than it was by Chris Spielman, local homer on the radio

For all we know the main OSU fan that Palmer can't stand is his boss. And who can blame him? :slappy:

I'd be interested to see what Vol fans would have to say about Vince Young if he started bashing Fulmer and Tennessee.

While I think it's moronic to bash the main university of the state you play quarterback in Palmer was speaking his mind and being honest. Hopefully after September 13th he'll dislike Ohio State, Tress and the fans even more.

Unencumbered by the thought process when I wrote that they couldn't fill the place... yeah, the Bengals have been selling tickets, but I don't see bengal mania sweeping the town. I don't see sell out crowds. I do see a large number of Browns and Steelers fans at those games, which seemes to suggest that out of town fans like the friendly confines of PBS and the chance to see some hilarious football and a likely away game W. Let's be honest here, how many people do you see in the place after half time?

Ok, there are plenty of states as clueless as Ohio. And Tennessee is one of them. Remember, they were getting on Eddie who said he was voting for Woodson over Peyton for the Heisman.

If you're trying to argue that Tennesseeans and Ohioans are in teh same boat, you'll get no arguement from me. I agree.
