So, will there be a little Porsche under NewYorkBuck's tree this year? I read that the bonuses on Wall Street are going to be very kind this year and even "bureaucratic wannabees" may get a nice little stocking stuffer:wink2:

Wow - this thread was revived from the dead.

In any event, yes BIN, rumor has it that bonuses will be quite nice this year. I have finshed the numbers for my own group, and we will all find out at my firm sometime next week I believe. Twas a good year in my industry.

I KNOW I am going to draw some jeers for this (which is prob why I havent revisited this thread myself), but while I did buy a car, I did not buy the Porsche.......I purchased a 2005.5 VW TDI. (ok - lets hear it from the peanut gallary now....)

For one, I felt gas prices were going to remain high, and this thing gets around 48 mpg on the highway. (Because of this, it was actually selling for about $2k more than I paid for it for a short time while petrol was over $4). For two, I have only one covered parking spot, so I can only have one car right now. Just doesnt seem right that I use a 911T for all of my basic transportation needs. Lastly, yes, it just comes down to that I am too damn cheap. As much as a new 911 would make me smile, nothing makes me smile more than having my $ working for me. I look forward to the day when my investments are making me more than my salary. Time to retire and teach then I think.

I'm not going to give you crap, at least not too much. One question: What the hell is a VW TDI? I know the GTI, but have not heard of the TDI. Seriously. I'm just going to give you crap for typing "petrol." :wink2:

Hey, the important thing is you made the decision you wanted. So what if you have the means to buy a sports car. If it isn't what you want to do and it won't make you happy there is no reason to do it.

As to being cheap I know a billionaire who still takes his trash in to his office building. His attitude is he pays for it at work so why pay for it at home.

Congrats on the car purchase! I figured you more for a nice Crown Vic. That's what all those government types drive:biggrin:

No no no...I want pics of Charlize. NYB knows the forum rules

Ok smart asses. First off - its a Jetta, not a Bug. Second, the TDI stands for Turbo Direct Injection, which really translates to "diesel", which is why I intentionally used the work "petrol". Third, the GF makes fun of me even more than you guys for buying it, but I know deep down she loves it. (As she knows it will likely be hers someday).

Lastly, would love to post pics, as I AM the bragging type :tongue2: , but judging from her reactions everytime I bring it up, it probably wouldnt be a good idea for this Buckeye. All I can leave you with right now is w/o fail several times a week strangers will come up to her and draw the comparison. Best I could do is peruse a few pages of pics on the net to see which one was closest. This one seems pretty close. If I looked at my computer quick I would think it was her. Sorry boys, best I can do for now. We're thinking of coming out for a bball game in a month or two so maybe some of you can catch up with us then for a drink then.
