Cam Newton (QB New England Patriots)

Yep that was a great run. He deserves the Heisman if he continues what he is doing. Plus he has another big game with Alabama coming up later in the season to prove himself.

He's a beast. He deserves any and all Heisman hype. He is what everyone wanted hairlice to be before he faced a real defense.

He should have a significant lead in the Heisman race right now. Kellen Moore and LaMichael James are his main competition as of today, but Newton's done a lot more for his team.

And the long run today was a Heisman highlight that most of the voters saw and will remember.

Yeah, but I believe that the "Kenny Rogers payola accusations" (which won't likely be cleared up before the Heisman voting) will definitely hurt his Heisman chances. I'm sure some voters will be reluctant to vote for him fearing the embarrassment of another "Reggie Bush II" fiasco.

I agree that "It it what it is" is merely a cop out statement and frankly the expression is downright silly. Having said that, I don't know yet that Newton broke any rules so I'm not blaming the kid yet. It sounds like some dude was on the take to try to get money from schools for Newton to go there, but I don't know that Newton has taken anything from this huckster. Until I know that, I'll continue to blame the creepy "agent'.

I agree. I put this in the "innocent until proven guilty" department. I have not seen all the evidence.

Interesting that people are blaming him even before he's been charged. Nothing in the report says that Auburn paid money, or that Newton received money. Simply says one corrupt guy wanted money from Miss St for Cam.

Just playing whatif...
Would Cam of been worth $180,000 to Miss St? Without a doubt. They are 7-2 now, and would have at least 8 wins with him. It sucks for DM that he didn't get him.
Would Cam of gone to Miss St if Kenny Rogers got paid? I doubt it, but maybe I'm naive.
Did anyone know Cam was going to be this good? Nobody could predict what the kid has done to this point.

All in all, however, this is what we DO know.

Auburn did not offer Cam and his family any money and as of right now, nobody is even alleging that Auburn committed any wrongdoing in this whole fiasco. All that is being alleged is that some asshole agent/representative called up a M. State booster and tried to scam some money. Auburn has apparently known about this for months, which says that they are confident that they've done nothing wrong and that Cam has done nothing wrong.

You have to take a look at the timing of all of this. Cam is in a Heisman chase, his team is currently on route to a BCS Title game and there would be no better time than now to take a jab at the program and the player if you were interested in causing enough of a distraction to lessen their chances.

I HIGHLY doubt that this is a total sham just designed to subvert Auburn's chances of going undefeated.

Actually, we DON'T know this, but that's irrelevant.

Or it's a matter of people getting their ducks in a row before going public.

Just pointing out alternatives.

The allegations were made in January. It is taking until now for the investigation to get going.

That's about three years faster than the Southern Cal investigation.

Personally, I think that Miles Brand's passing means there's a new sheriff in town; one who's more concerned about public perception re: amateur sports rather than doing what he could to ensure big television revenue.

No doubt. I was just saying that this did not start last month. This has been going on before he was a Heisman candidate or since Auburn played it's first game. It has been going very fast in terms of the NCAA.
