Cam Newton (QB New England Patriots)

In a bit of SEC irony, the place they label "Auburn, Georgia" is actually "Gainesville, Georgia"

Here's a map - if you want to get there, get on High Street and head south.

Article by Wojciechowski and the Newton saga.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/colu...i_gene&page=wojciechowski/110121&sportCat=ncf

Cam Newton is no longer on the Auburn campus, but the stench from his father Cecil's pay-for-play scheme and bungled cover-up still hovers over college football likes gases over a landfill.

Juxtaposes this situation to that of Pryor.

A quarterback's father (a reverend, by the way) shopped his son like you shop a used car on Craigslist. There were public denials and lies from Cecil Newton but never an apology or explanation after he got caught.

Compare that to Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, one of five Buckeyes players who sold championship rings and memorabilia in exchange for money and/or discounted tattoos. Pryor not only apologized to his teammates, but he apologized on national television after the Buckeyes beat Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl. Accountability matters.

I think this is a rather interesting statement about $Cam:

Of course, Auburn officials who know Cam Newton well say it's entirely possible that he didn't have a clue about his father's actions. He's a 10-year-old in a man's body. He's Tom Hanks in "Big," an innocent. He'd rather play with other kids than deal with adults.

The "an innocent" part seems like a qualifier used as an afterthought.

Presumed innocent if viewed within a vacuum . . . .

. . . . . but in the context of his departure from UF?
Ya know, the truth of the matter of why he left is one of those things that I would really love to know. What I do not "get" is how and why any alleged cheating to obtain grades at UF would not be reflected in changed grades to "F"s or whatever....which would follow him, GPA wise, to Auburn.

I guess it is possible that UF could not change grades to an F for copying another student if he had left the school and did not participate in the hearing....but it is more likely to me that his refusal to participate would result in the grade being changed to the F. If that was so, then how the hell did he stay eligible to play at the JC he went to from Flordia?

You can't expect a 10 year old man child to be held accountable. Come on....

Imagine if Josh Baskin had a Cecil Newton??? I mean, he held down that job, earned promotions and landed that sweet SOHO loft on his own... with a little pimpin' he could have been the Lee Iacocca of toys...

Anthony Paige: Sports Agent/Church Contractor

Who is your agent/agency and what factors went into your decision?

Cecil Newton, Jr.: "My agent is Tony Paige with Perennial Sports and Entertainment. My father did a lot of background on potentially 10-15 other agencies that were recruiting me. Tony was a great selection because of his knowledge and experience in the industry."

Are there two men named Anthony Paige? May be. Both are African American males, both are associated with the Newtons, both have the same name. One guy named Anthony Paige was presented to the Newnan City Council as the guy who would oversee repairs to Cecil Newton’s church. Another guy named Anthony Paige is a registered sports agent, who works for the same company that Cam’s agent does, and who also represented Cam’s big brother.

But none of this is connected, right?

Because an F at Florida is equivalent to a B- at Auburn?

In a typical transfer your credits may transfer - but your GPA does not.

If you start from zero GPA at the new institution but keep your courses in good standing going forward, then you would be eligible.

According to UF's current policy (http://www.dso.ufl.edu/sccr/honorcodes/conductcode.php) the university shouldn't have even released his transcripts to other schools without resolving the issue (http://regulations.ufl.edu/chapter4/4050-2008.pdf) either by reaching an agreement with the instructor on an appropriate sanction or going through the judicial process with the Dean of Students office (http://www.dso.ufl.edu/sccr/documents/facultystudentresolutionform.pdf)

It's entirely possible that Newton and the instructor(s) reached an agreement that included an assignment penalty rather than a course penalty. If he agreed to those type of sanctions, he would be able to withdraw from the course(s) (keeping his transcript relatively clean) and avoid the judicial process.
