Cam Newton (QB New England Patriots)

Reading this thread reminds me of when I first started to doubt Santa Clause (spoiler alert for BB73).

You had your doubts that it might not be true, but the thought that it might be was so sweet you struggled to hang on to it. Only in this case "Santa Claus" burns the houses of people you don't like.

Hopefully the title of this thread will someday be changed to "Yes Virginia, the 2010 SEC Champion has been sanctioned by the NCAA."

Could the time be at hand where you take Vandy out of the SEC, put USC in and just turn the damn thing into a legitimate paying semi pro football league? Make the NFL pay for it and let everyone else get back to being academic institutions that take pride in their schools athletic achievements.

No. Make an example out of Auburn, using the "hand of god" if need be - but that isn't fair to the other institutions who are making targeted efforts to do the right thing.

Thought NCAA did away with the death penalty. How could they get it?
They just haven't used it since SMU....because they really haven't had to. It's not like they're banned from ever using it.

Here's a question about possible penalties: Let's say a TV ban is part of the penalties for Auburn way down the line. What does that mean for Joe Florida Fan? Now he can't watch his team play Auburn because they cheated? That would piss me off if somebody else in the Big10 screwed me out of seeing an OSU game.

So here's what happens

Auburn beats Bama and plays Oregon for NC

In the mean time everything comes out and Auburn is banned... so BCS struggles and turns to OSU to bail them out... begs OSU to accept to play for NC.. which we agree to ... only to help them out... and we kick the crap out of Oregon .. again

Or they simply get either a reduced cut of the TV revenue (or none at all)?

I think this is the way to go. Cut their scholarships, ban them from bowl games and have them forfeit their SEC TV money share for 2 seasons.
And have them watch reruns of Maude and Golden Girls  I agree that would really suck if you missed the chance to see your team because of what some [censored]ing [censored]s with no regards for the rules did.

I just think because of league TV contractual obligations - you have to let them play. But those fuckers are going to do it for free.

Here is the one thing... Auburn would be a recent repeat offender, and it any of this is true, it is the same people that got them in trouble the first time. And back then Auburn had to promise alot of things to prevent them from losing their accreditation.

So while if it was up to the NCAA or SEC it would be the USC punishment. What Auburn has to be really afraid of is losing their accreditation and ceasing being an university. That would REALLY be the death penalty.

How do you make an example of Auburn if the SEC league office knew about all this and let it go on? (Assuming that's the case obviously).

Given the overall body of work for the SEC in terms of NCAA trouble I'd say if there are institutions making an effort to do the right thing they need to be giving some pretty strong pushback to Slive and company regarding where the league stands on the entire issue of NCAA compliance. Not the lip service public answer but the real behind closed doors deal.

Sounds like a plan to me! I hope it happens quickly.
It's also my main motivating factor for hoping Auburn loses Friday and next Saturday. I do support the SEC in terms of conference superiority - but I DO NOT want an asterix placed next to our BCS record and an AU national championship does just that.

I think the best solution would be to edit the other team out of the game footage in post-production and then broadcast the game on tape-delay.

Like NCAA on PlayStation: Ohio State versus 22 Purdue mascots.

This is the reason why SMU received the death penalty. They were on probation, made assurances... and didn't change a thing.

With the facts tending to show its the same people at issue, the NCAA may be a tad more inclined to dust off its stiffest penalty.
