Cam Newton (QB New England Patriots)

There is an alternate "take" on that by fans of other programs as it relates to how a reputation is - call it earned - that sees it differently.
It will always be true that fans of other programs - unless it is your arch rival(s) - will never be educated about the facts of any allegation in the minutia loving way that loyal fans are about their own program.

So fact number one - to expect other fan bases to know as much as you do about any allegation is naive and unreasonable. You kill me. You go into detail about the way ESPN and the Dispatch have improperly slandered your asses, and yet seem incredulous that the rest of the country absorbs the ESPN headline story news and does not see the rebuttal articles in Along the Olentangy and the retraction - if there is a retraction - buried in the non-headline section of ESPN.

All of that creates impressions. I know you don't like it, but that is the reality of news, and why defamation is a tort. You never can really get back to square one with the folks who heard the bad stuff. It sticks.

Which puts the lie to the "call it earned" remark - which was Josh's point in the first place.

We'll never get it, but I would LOVE to hear an explanation from ESPN brass on why they requested so much from Ohio State and so little from Oregon. I can't possibly think of a rational explanation. Even "Ohio State is more important, therefore a bigger story" doesn't cut it, since although the Buckeyes have larger national cachet than the Ducks, Oregon just got done playing for a BCS Championship. How can they not be big enough to pursue this story to the bitter end?

not to mention that the nations leading rusher in LaMichael James was implicated as being bought and paid for by Chip Kelly through Lyles.

That is the part that is unearned. Or partially earned. Some of the stuff said was in relation to a number of things done by employees and athletes of tOSU, some of which were bad, some of which looked bad but can have different interpretation, and some of which were witch hunt bull[Mark May] once the feeding frenzy started. But even then, had the other legitimately bad stuff not happened the feeding frenzy would not be there.

Hell, had the Tat-five gone down with Indiana football nobody would give two [Mark May]s. Your prestige, your status as a traditional power, your recent success in the B1G and BCS world, your iconic coach, the remaining buzz from the MoC war with ESPN - and yes - y'alls perceived Holier than Thou attitude all played a small part is the way things went down.

I'd be happy to PM you the list of things that - to reasonable people not emotionally invested in a beloved program or coach - could be arguably interpreted as tOSU shooting itself in the foot, or a bad rep having been "earned" to the casual observer. I already said I don't like the word, as "earned" comes across as a little incendiary. The main point of my post was to say wait and see about Auburn. JCO was the one that stuck the comparison of "selling your stuff" to Auburn paying 180K for Cam. This is a Cam thread, not a "how in the world can you think tOSU can look bad to anyone after tat-gate" thread, even though we all jump around a lot.

I take your comment - and Josh's comment - as call for me to justify my statement. And I'd love to - I'm Mr. Wall of Words after all - but I think I'll pass. On this thread. At this time.

Daddy, all due respect, but I have serious doubts that you really want me to post that here, if at all. The folks who will see where I'm going from will not be worth getting everyone else angry. So if you would be so kind, go back and read where I wrote you are not not like Auburn, that I never said or meant that you were, that I agree ESPN was unfair to you, and lets leave the difference of opinion as to your reputation as an "agree to disagree", or I'll copy you on a PM to anyone who cares what I think.

All one of you.

I see what you did there...pretty clever. :susp:

I'm on to you and your lawyer tricks.:sneaky:

USA Today's Danny Sheridan Says He Knows Name of Cam Newton Payor

Published on: August 14, 2011 | Written by: Clay Travis

Danny Sheridan, USA Today's odds handicapper, Tweeted the following message today: "I've been told the name of the person the NCAA feels allegedly paid Cecil Newton & where witness is. more when on Finebaum this week." This tweet follows up on the allegation Sheridan made at SEC Media Days last month. Appearing on Paul Finebaum's radio show from the Wynfrey Hotel lobby, Sheridan said that the NCAA believed it had identified a bagman in the Cam Newton case and had a witness who could verify the payoff. At the time Sheridan said it was 50/50 whether the witness would cooperate with the NCAA.

Oooooooh the bombshell is dropping any minute now.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany minute now.
OK, so someone who is following this more closely please let me know. Is it, you know, a bombshell bombshell? Like with earth craters, mangled steel girders and strewn body parts? Or more like a whoopie cushion?
