Two weeks in a row we've had coaches stand right next to the ref and call a time out on such short notice that play can't be stopped. It may be effective... it's batting 500 as I write... but it's an invitation to disaster.
You want to ice the kicker? Fine. But let's not allow it to go to this extreme. Stop it before someone gets hurt or a situation arises that gets out of hand...
It's a part of the trend to take responsibility and control out of the hands of the players and put it in the hands of the coach. I thought one of the major lessons that sports were to teach was that a player had to remain calm and under control in order to think in such situations.
