Regarding Cal's SOS, I'm getting kind of sick of the argument that they play no one. It's easy to say that about any team, any year, so it seems. I think there is some veracity in the SOS argument, but it's getting kind of old saying a team that plays in one of the major conf (and I can't decide if that means to include or exclude the big yeast) plays a weak sched.
Would you say playing Indiana, Penn State, Michigan State and Illinois is more difficult than playing Vandy, Miss St., Ole Miss, Kentucky? How about the bottom feeder in the Big XII.... I don't know. Seems to me these are the same teams, really. Every conference has dogs, and you HAVE to play them because they are Conf. foes.
Is the Pac 10 weak comparative to others? Sure. But not so much so that people should be saying it's a mid major Conf.
In my opinion, if you want to evaluate a team's SOS, look at their OOC schedule. Not only WHO they play but WHERE they play. The SEC teams NEVER leave home. ACC teams, and Big XII team load up on I-AA squads. That is where you notice ... what.. stat padding and intentional weak scheduling.
Finally, someone said something about Cal crushing weak teams. What the hell else are they supposed to do? This is why I was disappointed they took Marging of Victory out of the BCS but left SOS in (back a couple years ago). If you play the # 116 team in the nation SOS-wise and beat them by 70, you shouldn't be faulted for it. If you are supposed to crush an opponant, and you do, I just don't see how that's supposed to HURT your reputation nationally.
