Yeah and so now that I think about it, obviously this wasn’t a change that was free for me. I had to sink $50 or so into the over the air tuner that had DVR capabilities and then another $50 in a hard drive to connect to it. So there’s that...and being honest I’d tell you that this tuner works but it’s not nearly as slick as most other integrated DVRs are. But it does work.

Now, if you live in a region where Vue carries all your locals, you are all set. Where I live, I get NBC and CBS, but not Fox and ABC. So I have to make my own workaround. I’ll also tell you that if you are a picture quality snob, local channels on Vue and not nearly as good as over the air.

The Roku makes a huge difference for me; I've been watching my PSVue for a couple weekends now, all college football with the heaviest traffic, and no glitching or hiccups, so I went out and bought my own Roku.

One thing though, the Roku screen channel guide and the interface totally blows compared to Fire Stick, but I'll just live with it.

recently switched to running directv now via roku with 150 mbps.

directv now sucks. the user interface is horrible. the channel guide is slow to populate. going to the guide means the background channel stops playing. tv channels don't have numbers, so you can't just change a channel by inputting a number. heck, the remote control doesn't even have numbers. sometimes the guide stalls without any listed information, so you have no idea what to do. sometimes directv now just stalls in general. as in, nothing is viewable until there is a reset. while watching sports, the audio often lags by about 5 seconds upon return from directv now's proprietary commercials. you have to change channels and then change back for the audio to sink up. of course, all sports are behind by about 10 seconds of real-time action, but that's probably an issue for all internet streams since it takes time for the information to be encoded and relayed.

also hate comcast xfinity with its 1 terabyte cap. being a sports fan in a house with multiple tvs necessarily kills the cap.

no contract is great, though. would switch to youtube tv, but it's surprisingly not yet available in this area. any recommendations for a switch?

Had Time Warner for years and after the merger it's now Spectrum. In all that time it was never a contracted length of service. If I want to drop or add a sevice, all it takes is a phone call, or most things can be done online. I was a little surprised ( not really) that when I called to get the pricing to drop my TV and phone packages and just go internet only, that they didn't try to offer me some kind of deal.

I haven't had Time-Warner/Spectrum since before the sale. Got the same stonewalling you did when I called to negotiate a better deal--basically they told me to go pound sand.

It's worth noting that there's a giant difference between a Roku and a Roku stick. The latter is comparable or better to the woefully underpowered tech included in your tv (as a ruse to keep TVs from free falling in price )

I have a stick on my bedroom TV (and did have a several-years old used Roku my DD originally passed on to me.) My new Samsung has built-in Roku, which I use for Prime, Netflix, YouTube, etc. Maybe I'm not enough of a techy geek to notice, but I don't see issues with the new TV streaming. Unless WOW is screwing up (again) with their wifi, it all works perfectly well for me. What kind of issues do you see with the "underpowered tech"?

Spectrum sucks majorly compared to Bright House in my area. They know they have you by the balls and it shows that they don't give two shits about you. Bright House on the other hand had pretty good customer service when you needed them, and didn't mind looking the other way if you were gaming the system for a better rate. I think they changed their resell contract with Earthlink as well, because I don't remember requiring a 12 month contract when I looked at Earthlink before the sale.

It depends on the model, but the lower end units tend to be a little laggier in the menus, particularly the built in units.

Though maybe they've improved the stick functionality since I used it last.

I have all Roku TVs in my place, makes things a lot easier for my setup.

I pay ~$31 a month in total for cell phone, wifi, and TV ($20 for wifi, $11 for Netflix). I can make this work because I use my parents cable login for just about every channel... Xfinity wifi comes with free cell phone service if you use less than 0.1 GB a month, which I'm able to do since I also have a work phone (though you have to buy a phone through xfinity).

I’ve run the gamut on cable vs streaming services over the last year. We cut the cord for awhile and tried PSVue and DirectTV Now. Of course I had to keep Spectrum Internet because that’s my only option.

My biggest problem with any of the streaming services is not getting all local channels. None of them including Hulu provide all of them in my area. Cue is the worst for that. My property has to many trees to get a good antenna scenario working.

We recently went back to Spectrum because I was able to get a deal that was only $10 more than Internet + streaming service. Plus now I get HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime. I will probably drop Spectrum again when they jack my price at the end of 1 year.

I only have 1 cable box and stream over a ROKU on my other TV. I have noticed that the Spectrum app is really bad with connectivity whether it is with the ROKU or through the Samsung Smarthub. I have a 5G network so I’m not sure why it is so bad. Spectrum doesn’t work on the Firestick. I still use my Firestick when I want to do Netflix or Prime and I never have connection issues. I never had issues with the other streaming services on the Firestick. I’m leaning towards the Spectrum app being the problem.

Sunday update.
Pulled the trigger Friday. Dropped my TV package and phone( I don't even own a landline phone) from Spectrum. My internet went up $10 from the bundle price to $70 for 100mbps.
Still checking out trials of Vue, Youtube TV and Hulu Live.
Pros and cons with each one, but for pricing and channel availability, I'm kind of liking Hulu. Has all of my local channels except one that I really never watch, Has A&E networks that the other two don't and some kids channels that are big for me when the grand kids are here. Vue seems to have the best picture and audio quality, but along with Youtube TV, required me to subscribe to another service ( Philo) to get all the channels I want.
Since I already subscribe to Hulu, my subscription is included and the cost is only $40.
Jan 1st, my Cable bundle was going to increase to north of $200, and now, between my internet cost and Hulu it will only be $110.
Add my Netflix and Britbox subscriptions I'm still a little under $130.
