So with the Vue, you can get live sports via espn and B1G Network (and obviously tje network channels), but Fox Sports "City Where You Live" (Detroit for me) would both be not in the Vue listing and unable to be viewed with an Antena since it's a cable channel?

And if you don't have a smart TV or Playstation 4, for example, hooked up to a TV the Fire stick should get the job done? I have 3 TV's, but none are smart and only one has a PS4 hooked up. Vue accessible through Fire stick?

Cutting the cord tomorrow. WOW coming to install Internet and cancelling out of AT&T Uverse/Internet.

Got the HD antenna's in place and have all the local stations. Vue free trial starts tomorrow. Here's to saving a lot of $ over time!

So you can get local channels like local Fox Sports? I've never not had cable. I always thought you could only get network television with an antenna.

In Columbus I get Fox Sports (fs1 and fs2), Fox Sports Ohio, and Fox Sports Ohio (Cincinnati feed for Reds) on Vue. I think they have some issues where they haven't been able to negotiate rights in all areas fully, so if it isn't showing up in their list of channels that would be available to you for that location, then maybe that is the case.

It works on the firestick. The menus and channel changes were a bit laggy though. I switched to the full fire tv box thing and it smoothed out.

If you can, switch to the box and connect it with an ethernet cable. My firestick was choppy from wifi in the next room. With ethernet I haven't had any problems with movies. Live TV is sometimes choppy for me but I run KODI through the fire box. When it lags it's because of over crowding on the server, not from my connection.

Yeah I figured I'd try out the firestick first. It's not terribly laggy, but definitely slower than the cable changing channels/scrolling through the guide.

I will probably be purchasing the Firebox for our family room tv, and moving the firestick to my Buckeye Room.

So far so good! Have all of the shows &a stations we watch!

Have Playstation Vue running great through my Fire TV, but still trying to figure out the antenna situation. Any recommendations on indoor antennas (also, low profile outdoor ones), especially in block and stucco buildings? I'm about 50 miles from the towers, but up on a slight ridge which, according to the FCC maps, puts me in a better reception tier than the rest of the area, since I'm pretty much level with the tree line or slightly above. I'm eyeing the Mohu 50, but would probably have to mount it on the middle pane of the sliding door for the patio because of the stucco and block construction. I have thought about tacking it up outside where there's a coax outlet on the screened in patio that I'm guessing is the outlet intended for an antenna/dish, but it does seem to be a strictly indoor antenna.

One thing I learned is more expensive is not always better. I got a 40 dollar antenna from walmart and it sucked. I returned it and bought a 10 dollar antenna, put it in the same place, and I've been getting ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, CW and a few more ever since.

Just ordered a big antenna to install in attic. Specs say it reaches 180 miles if it is outside and above the room. I just need 50 miles for major networks.

Recording the local stations will be a challenge. Someone with Vue can chime in, but I think it provides some stuff on-demand, but I don't imagine everything will be, and certainly not sports. My co-worker bought a HomeRun DVR and is going to try to record local stations to Plex. If it works, I'll do the same.

Yeah, with Vue if you don't get a local station it is replaced with the network's general on demand (so, same as if you went to abc.com, for example). CBS is the exception, and I believe that's because they've monetized their on demand access enough for it to not make sense to offer it. I haven't gotten to playing around with "recordings" yet, so can't speak to if the FOX station (the only local station on Vue for my area) will let me record anything at all, let alone sports.

Tried the Mohu Leaf 50 since Best Buy had a bundle deal with the Roku stick for $20 more than the antenna alone. It picks up everything but the NBC affiliate, of course. However, if the opening/closing ceremonies of the Olympics are also available through their streaming options, then I may not really care. I can get their weather coverage online, which is pretty much the only other thing I use them for.

Did some pricing today with Time/Warner & WOW to upgrade my cable to include BTN, ESPN, etc. for football season. It will basically double what I'm paying now.

Don't think I'm going to be able to justify it. Stupid thing is I can't remember what I did last year...???

Maybe I was just relying on First Row. $20 bucks/month for Sling is looking like a much better option.

It is seriously obscene how much $$$ these bozos charge for their services.

And, BTW, didn't there used to be a law against companies conspiring to fix uniform prices? I think they called it something like "competition"?

With football season knocking at the front door.

Dish and Fox better fix their shit.

It's been going on for 6-8 weeks with fox8 being blacked out.
Lord help me, if I actually have to watch full Browns games on 19, and can't change to the other game once the Browns prove how overmatched they are.

I'm not sure how long it will be valid since TWC has been absorbed by two different companies, but they have been offering some pretty good deals on internet + cable (w/ BTN). I think it ended up being an extra $30/mo for TV added onto my internet plan with no contract or cancellation fees. The downside was that if I cancelled I may not be able to roll back to my promotional pricing on my internet service.

Something to consider for those looking for cheap TV bundles.

RE: Internet streaming speeds

Our household only has two consumers:

1) My wife - who is often streaming something (hulu, netflix, etc)

2) Me - gaming, streaming a sports game, or playing music while I work

My purchased internet speed: 50 mb down, 2 mb up

My actual internet speed: 25 mb down, 1.9 mb up

This works fine for us, though I do notice some quality loss of video at times when it's busier (though I never know if that's my bandwidth or the ISP throttling it).

Do not lose sight of the upload speeds. Everyone gets caught up in the download, but when my wife first switched from regular TV to netflix, she slaughtered my ability to game because she ate up the bandwidth. I ended up getting a router that could be configured to limit how much bandwidth each device gets, so I could limit her total upload and download bandwidth. After that I was able to game again without severe lag.
