It's OK. I won't mind. You can remove this, too.
My favorite is the "Sunsetter" or something like that. It is the artificial roof thingy you put up on your porch. They still run the exact same commercial from the 80s, complete with poor resolution and bad clothing, and just voiceover the price and things that have changed, and the voiceover is bad.You know, funny you mentioned that. For some reason their commercial they ran in the NBC Sports app during the Olympics was in SD or worse, and the first time it ran I was like "Oh come on, don't bump me down to a crap resolution!" The next commercial was fine, and then after a few more times I realized it was the commercial and not my stream. Someone really screwed up with that commercial.
My one year discount with TWC is almost up, paying $158 a month for all channels and dvr with 30mbps internet. Plus I have Netflix and Amazon Prime. Cincinnati Bell just made Fioptics available in my neighborhood. I have 2 Rokus already. Seriously thinking of switching to Fioptics + Vue. I can probably get by with 20mbps since I live alone. That will be $47.98 per month. Vue core is $34.99 and covers almost everything I currently watch. $82.97 total. That's almost half off. Plus I can save $35 a month if I switch my alarm system monitoring over to Cincinnati Bell. Cutting over $100 a month would be nice. Gives me a little room if I need to bump up the internet speed or add a service like CBS All Access.
Ask them how much money you'll save if you cancel everything and stop this ridiculous cycle of price gouging and threats. On the off chance that they let you do this without caving, you can just come riding right back in with a lucrative new customer package. So, got my email notice that the Time Warner bill was ready. Bastards have raised my rate (without any change in service) by almost $30 in the last few months. Called, and was told my "promotions" have expired. Also, was told that, because I still have some special bundling, that dropping basic cable OR lowering my internet speed would in no way reduce my bill.
Just got home from scheduling replacement surgery to try to make nice with the knee I rolled a motorcycle over on a few decades ago. REALLY have other things to do with my fricking time right now than spend it interviewing alternate cable suppliers, or negotiating with T/W over the standard threat to leave. But, it's that or pay the bastards more than I used to for full-on, all-channel cable and 'net combined.
Fucking thieves, I swear.
In a win for frustrated Comcast customers everywhere, the FCC has ordered the vampiric media conglomerate to cough up $2.3 million—“the largest civil penalty assessed from a cable operator”— for sketchy billing practices.
The FCC announced the fine today. The punishment was handed down after the FCC received “numerous complaints” from consumers who accused Comcast of adding a bunch of stuff they never asked for to their cable bills, including premium channels, set-top boxes, and DVRs.
In a nice bit of schadenfreude, Travis LeBlanc, the head of the FCC’s enforcement bureau, called out Comcast for its very obviously shady behavior. “It is basic that a cable bill should include charges only for services and equipment ordered by the customer—nothing more and nothing less,” LeBlanc said in a statement. The FCC’s rules ban cable companies from doing this kind of thing, which is apparently known as “negative option billing.”
Feds Order Comcast to Cough Up Millions for Shady Billing Practices
That seems fair. It's probably comparable to a month (or maybe a week) of profits earned from this nonsense.
Edit: Meant to ask--What has been anyone's experience with buying your own modem vs. paying the bozos for theirs? I've always been intimidated by that little proviso that they will charge you if something goes wonky with your service and it turns out to be your own modem. If you have a good one, any brand recommendations would be appreciated.
I just got a refurbished docsis 3.0 surfboard modem for 55.I bought the Motorola Surfboard 6141 two-and-a-half years ago and it has had 0 issues. I paid $85 for it. So far, TWC would've billed me $300 (and counting) for a crappier modem. I figure even I buy a brand new one every single year, I'm coming out well ahead.
If you're on Time Warner, you just have to make sure the modem is on their approved hardware list. I'm assuming other ISPs have similar documents.
