Just got that passive aggressive email from Roku:YouTube TV
- Roku in a disagreement with Google over access and may lose the ability to have the app
Dear Roku Customer,
We are sending this email to update you on the possibility that Google may take away your access to the YouTube TV channel on Roku. Recent negotiations with Google to carry YouTube TV have broken down because Roku cannot accept Google’s unfair terms as we believe they could harm our users.
Ensuring a great streaming experience at an exceptional value is the core of our business. We will always stand up for our users, which is why we cannot accept Google's unfair and anticompetitive requirements to manipulate your search results, impact the usage of your data and ultimately cost you more.
While we are deeply disappointed in Google’s decision to use their monopoly power to try and force terms that will directly harm streamers, we remain committed to reaching an agreement with Google that preserves your access to YouTube TV, protects your data and ensures a level playing field for companies to compete. We encourage you to contact Google and urge them to reach an agreement to continue offering YouTube TV on Roku and to follow standard industry practices pledging not to require access to sensitive search data or to manipulate your search results.
Thank you,
Roku
What's strange about the Spectrum/Roku situation is that if you already have it installed on one device, it will still install it when you set up another one after you sign in to your Roku account. I bought a Roku TV for the "doghouse" last month ( have one in the bedroom too) and when I went through the setup, it automatically installed the Spectrum streaming app.. even though it is no longer in the Roku app store.Just got that passive aggressive email from Roku:
That’s good to know. I may buy another Roku device knowing that. What's strange about the Spectrum/Roku situation is that if you already have it installed on one device, it will still install it when you set up another one after you sign in to your Roku account. Do it quick. That’s good to know. I may buy another Roku device knowing that.
So my question is in the same continent as cord cutting but on the other side of the country.
For those of you Buckeye dudes who really go all out for tailgates. I'm talking Tents and TV's...etc
How do you set up the satellite to work?
Could it really be a simple as a generator, a mobile hot spot with Wifi and a Roku?
just an FYII finally cut the cord yesterday. I’m now getting Internet only from AT&T and using YouTubeTV, along with Netflix and occasional other streaming services. Saving almost $100 a month, I should have done this a year ago.
This is my plan. They did it recently with NBC, I think? I don't remember if they actually lost the service for any time, but they told us they were going to reduce the cost and to take that money and subscribe to Peacock until it was resolvedI’m still a dumb cable guy, but pretty sure you could also take the $15 and sign up for ESPN+ (and Disney+ and Hulu). I think that bundle is around $15…maybe $17? ESPN+ standalone is probably $6.
But chances are those things get resolved eventually.
I have looked and can't find a way to pick up ESPN without it being an add on to cable or a streaming service.
