I recall seeing a story about that show ruining friendships because one or both of the other houses was their friend's home. They blasted the decor, kitchen, etc. which did not go over well with their friends.

When PS Vue ran out I switched to YouTube TV and have been very happy. Only to have this Sinclair thing hit the radar. Luckily they reached a deal a deal last week that will keep SportsTime Ohio and Fox Sports Ohio for me. Otherwise I was looking at Hulu or just raiding someone's logins to use the regional apps.

Wife and I thinking seriously about switching to Hulu TV is Spectrum can't throw us a deal.
Hulu TV has all the local channels and sports channels and is $54.99 and works on our Roku's

Spectrum has been sending out these $49 per deals for internet and TV. So I checked into it since I’m paying $69 for their internet. By the time I got to a real price it was $138 for internet/silver package. I don’t think that was with a box, just streaming. Their streaming App is lame and it only works on ROKU. I prefer the Firestick.

The biggest problem with cord cutting is getting Internet and an IPTV package for less than bundling Internet and cable. Luckily we have WOW, Spectrum, and AT&T in my neighborhood and we get 100 Mbps from WOW for $40, which seems to be better than the bigger names carriers. I've been on SlingTV for 4 years now and was lucky enough to get grandfathered in to free DVR for beta testing it. Sling is missing some of the sports channels so I'd either have to pay for BTN+ or watch it in SD since WOW doesn't block basic cable or HD local channels for me. I use Plex DVR (already owned a lifetime PlexPass) to record over the air channels through an HD Homerun. In all honesty it does create a more complicated setup since you can't just go to one place for everything. If you are already used to Roku or other devices you are likely used to going to NetFlix, Disney+, etc. for different content so it is less of a big deal. Still out the door for around $85 a month for Internet and TV.

Cut the cord last week (DTV) and rolling the dice with Apple TV 4Ks across the house and Hulu Live. Crossing fingers. Does look like we can get BTN in Hulu Live so that’s good.

Proof will be in not missing a game and having the ability to DVR anything I am not home for.

So far, had I known that Apple TV was this good, I would have thrown the Rokus out with the bath water years ago.

What flavor of Roku gave you trouble? The stand-alone $80 ones? Or the terrible ones includediincluded televisions to artificially television prices from dropping?

I'm being sarcastic about a pet peeve of mine, but I'm curious if you are indeed noticing a big difference over the better models.

We have three units. One is a stick that is not used much. A second is a HD unit that is maybe five years old and a newer 4K unit that I got at Christmas. The 4K isn’t so bad.

I had issues with the 4K signal and my setup in the living room. It runs into a Yamaha amp (RX-A780) and then out through 100 ft of HDMI through a down wire chimney to the basement and back up a second chimney to the TV above the fireplace. For whatever reason the 4K signal over that run was garbage. I tried HDMI 2.0 boosters, different HDMI output settings, and other stuff to make it work. Failboated.

I plugged in the Apple TV and it automagically worked. The signal looks as good as the DTV 4K output for everything I’ve watched so far, less YouTube. But that’s an issue with Apple and YouTube compatibility. The test will come when we get football in the fall.

I did keep the HD Roku attached to the amp exclusively for Spotify. I can mirror both zones on that amp for music inside and outside or independently switch on / off the zones and / or switch inputs. So, it’s now just more or less a music streamer with a better interface than the Spotify integrated in the amp.

I’m a pretty big Apple fan and like the UX quite a bit. Having a voice based remote on my phone (Siri) is pretty sexy. Can’t bitch one bit about the Apples yet.

Hulu has *most* of the sports channels but is missing the league sponsored ones (MLBNetwork, NFLNetwork, etc)

YoutubeTV has dropped Sportstime Ohio (Cleveland Indians) in Columbus (and elsewhere)
A funny paradox about watching the Indians: To watch them on Sportstime Ohio on YoutubeTV you MUST be in the Cleveland area. To watch them on MLB.TV you MUST NOT be in the Cleveland area.

I have a Roku 4k and love it

Apple TV has a shitty remote, less free programming, and it's more than 2x the price of the top-of-the-line Roku. JMHO

I'm not sure about that. My new tv has built in Roku, and I'm not finding any differences between that and my Ultra. Plus, RokuTV blows away any of the other smart TV operating systems.

I think I've had the Roku 2, 3, 4K, and Ultra. The 2 got old and slow, but the others have worked fine. They tend to have a half off sale around Black Friday to I'll upgrade the oldest box every other year or so. I wish I could spend $100 less and get a high end dumb TV, but sadly that doesn't seem to exist. I feel Roku consistently gets the most attention from app developers. The Roku getting an on off button and volume controls for the TV was a game changer. Can do Sling, Plex, Netflix, Disney+, etc. with enough control over the TV with 1 remote that will find itself if we lose it. Biggest problem is explaining to the grandparents that we have everything they need with just the Roku remote.
