2027 CA DL Marcus Fakatou is a Buckeye!!!

LJsr working his magic in building relationships. That and a very competitive NIL package always keeps OSU in the DL game.
Juck has a great story about Marcus living on his own for several years with family in middle school. Marcus is originally from Alaska and his dad wanted him to play against better competition. Thats what led them to moving to CA for HS

I thought he was done and should have retired a few yhears ago after his his last few classes and rumors of fighting with Knowles. Lord was I wrong

Hope Larry has a few more years in him that’s for sure. I also thought it was time years ago but he’s Adjusted during this NIL world that’s for sure
I don't think he adjusted, as much as he was given a bigger NIL budget. There have been numerous kids(i.e. Jahkeem Stewart, Jake Kreul, Deuce Geralds, Justin Scott, Colin Simmons, etc) who would've been Buckeyes if OSU could've beat or come closer to the opposing teams offers

I'd use the old homily that the size of the pie is set, only variable is the size of the pieces. However, it appears that the size of the pie has grown somewhat. How much, we won't know until the recruiting dust settles. If at all.....not so certain any university wants to make known how much they have paid for the new recruiting beef. But if the NIL dollars are from outside the university normal funding, then who's to say. At least it's all above board, and the 'under the table' monies are now exposed.

Not to hijack, but my impression of LJSr is has always taken the approach of "If you play for me I will treat you as though you were my own son." This resonates for some prospects more than others.

Back on topic - Jacked to have Marcus on board!

These conversations, we can gladly continue in the 2027 recruiting thread

SEC schools are going to be happy with what Ohio State's five-star commitment admitted about the Buckeyes

  • Ohio State Buckeyes land five-star DL Marcus Fakatou over Georgia, Texas, Notre Dame, and Oregon, marking a significant recruiting win for the program.
  • Fakatou admits Ohio State's football facilities are not as fancy as other top programs, but he chose the Buckeyes due to their culture and proven player development.
  • Ohio State sees Fakatou as a versatile defensive lineman who can play both inside and outside, with his commitment to the program appearing solid despite his comments on facilities.
Ohio State five-star DL Marcus Fakatou told it like it is with how things are in Columbus. Georgia and Texas will like what the player they missed out on had to say about the Buckeyes.

The Ohio State Buckeyes started the week with a substantial recruiting win by landing 2027 five-star DL Marcus Fakatou. It was a huge addition to the class for the Buckeyes, and it was even more important because they beat out multiple top-end programs.

Fakatou chose the Buckeyes over schools like Georgia, Texas, Notre Dame, and Oregon. He canceled visits to Notre Dame and Oregon before his decision was made official because he already knew where he was going.

Getting a commitment from Fakatou marked another key addition for Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson. Ohio State's defensive line is in great shape going forward.

Marcus Fakatou opening up on his commitment choice sheds some light in Columbus

Ohio State has nice football facilities in Columbus in terms of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, but it's not up to par with some major programs. Ohio State is soon undergoing massive renovations to get up to par with some of the best facilities in the country, but they're not there yet. Fakatou recently admitted the facilities aren't the selling point in Columbus.

"When I went to Ohio State, it really wasn't all that," Fakatou said via The Austin & Birm Show. "They definitely, and this is not to knock them or anything, but they didn't have the fanciest facility like Michigan or Texas or Georgia. But it's just something about them. That culture and everything just played a big role in it for me."

Fakatou said it himself, it's the culture and everything else that Ohio State can use as a selling point. The Buckeyes have proven development and have shown the ability to get players to the NFL better than any other program in the country the last few years. Those things stand out more than shiny facilities that aren't going to matter in the big picture. Ohio State is still doing work to get up to par in those areas, but it doesn't have to be a focal point for them.

Why would they be happy about it?

So they can get shallower recruits?
