“There are a few schools I like a lot but I know it’s early for me still,” Uiagalelei said. “I like Ohio State a lot, they do a great job of developing defensive ends and getting them to the league. Player development is going to be the biggest factor in my decision so I like Ohio State a lot.



“Georgia was my most recent offer and I like them a lot too. I like Clemson of course and I’m just waiting for that offer. I understand though, they don’t offer players that early and I’ve only played in five games so hopefully it happens down the road. USC is another great school for me. It’s close to home so my family can come see me any time and growing up, that was always kind of a dream school for me so we’ll see what happens.”

The 2023 class has several freak defensive lineman nationally and St. John Bosco (CA) star Matayo Uiagalelei is definitely in that category. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound prospect is going to be one of the most heavily pursued stars in the rising junior class and Ohio State was able to host the potential five-star prospect on an unofficial visit in June.

The highlight of that visit, was the one-on-one workout with Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson. For a versatile athlete like Uiagalelei, getting a chance to focus on some of the intricacies of playing defensive end was a major bonus to the visit.

“It was an honor just getting to work with a great coach,” Uiagalelei recalled. “He knows a lot about the position and just football in general, so it was an honor. We had a lot of stuff in common (personality wise). “

When a recruit says "whomever shows me the most love", do they really mean "whomever shows me the most money"? Go Bucks! Actually, like Saban's answer that the NIL money is short term, mega bucks in the NFL is long term......

If you’re good enough you can make money through NIL short term AND in the NFL though. So idk why people can’t understand that. Many people graduate HS and enter the working force, and then move up the ladder and gain more success. These kids are creating clothing lines, endorsing sports drinks, apparel, home goods, cars, etc. They’re also getting agents and financial advisors, and I’m sure many of these schools are providing financial courses as well through the collectives. This is no longer the bagmen days, kids/parents aren’t meeting behind a sketchy strip mall and getting a duffel bag of cash anymore.

Just a couple of years ago the responsible adult advice was to get your degree because the NFL is a long shot and you can’t bank on it.

Now that it’s convenient for them some coaches, and fans, want to talk out of the other side of their mouth and tell these kids to bank on the NFL and the NIL money is the fools gold.

It’s sad really. A breathtaking display of hypocrisy, sanctimony and good old fashioned stupidity all rolled into one.

I'm going to be contrarian here but he has a TE's body to me and that might be his better position. Now that could surely change but the angle he currently comes off the ball and his build say TE to me, currently. He also mentioned it in that video. Plenty of time for either position though
