C Victor Cutler, Jr. (transfer to Louisville)

Interesting...wasn't Matt Jones recruited as a center? I figured he'd slide over and Vimahi or Hinzman would get a chance to go at guard.

Either way, love the mindset. Bring him in and let him compete at any position and push the guys there.

He was, but when OSU signed Harry Miller, I think the assumption was that Jones would then be OG. But the fact that he can play all IOL positions along with Cutler helps immensely.

OK, this is interesting:

“I WANT (JUSTIN FRYE) TO COACH ME TO BE THE BEST VERSION OF ME. AND I FEEL LIKE OHIO STATE WILL GIVE ME THE BEST OPPORTUNITY TO GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL EVENTUALLY.”– VICTOR CUTLER ON TRANSFERRING TO OHIO STATE

As a prospect out of high school, Cutler was rated as just a two-star recruit. His only FBS offer came from his hometown school, Louisiana-Monroe, where he started 21 games over the past three seasons including all 12 of the Warhawks’ 2022 games at left tackle. But Cutler always aspired to play at the highest level, which is why he opted to enter the transfer portal with two remaining years of eligibility.

“I just felt like I wanted better for myself,” Cutler told Eleven Warriors on Wednesday. “I mean, every kid’s dream is to play Power 5 football. Everyone dreams about going to the Bamas, the LSUs, the Georgias, the Ohio States, Michigans. Everyone dreams about going to these top schools. And so I felt like after last season, I felt like I had shown the capability and I feel like I've shown the world that I can play at that level. Even though I was at a small school, I still held my own against bigger competition.”

Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye reached out to Cutler two days after he entered the transfer portal. It didn’t take long for Frye to make a big impression on Cutler, and that relationship was the biggest reason why Cutler committed to Ohio State on Wednesday.

“He texted me almost every day, asked me what I want to do better to be a better football player. What do I think my flaws were, and just his knowledge of the game, it's just something I've never heard before,” Cutler said. “Like I thought, you know, being in college for four years, I think I know a pretty good bit about offensive line. But nah, he just showed me I'm just scratching the surface.

“I want him to coach me to be the best version of me. And I feel like Ohio State will give me the best opportunity to get to the next level eventually.”

Frye told Cutler he was impressed by what he saw from Cutler’s game film against Alabama and Texas last season, but what really impressed Cutler about Frye was that Frye told him what he needs to do better and how Ohio State can help him get better.

“He said he's watched my Alabama and my Texas game last year, and I did really good in those games. I mean, there was an article that said I had like a basically 85% pass grade (from Pro Football Focus) against Alabama,” Cutler said. “But he still told me all my flaws and where I went wrong and everything. So he was just telling me what I could work on. He was telling me all my strengths. And he was telling me what I could get better at. And he was telling me that he could tell I never trained my flaws. And he was like, ‘When I'm done with you, there is going to be no flaws with you.’ So it just makes sense to go play for him.”

Zach Smith(I know most don't want to hear his name, but he knows football film evaluation) broke down Cutler's film and praised the signing of him to OSU. Thinks he could be a very solid contributor at OC, and his game should be elevated playing with the talent on the OSU roster. TIFWIW, but I think Smith has a lot of football knowledge

Between Jones, James and Cutler, we will be good at Center. If we can keep Jones at RG that will be a plus. I really like the talent we have with Fryar, Zen, Hinzman, Tshbola, and Fitzpatrick. And Jackson is the best of the Offensive line. And we have a solid group of Freshmen coming in. Also excited about the 2024 class at OL.
Note: Forgot to mention Cristman as well.

VICTOR CUTLER, OT, OHIO STATE

11580736.jpeg

247Sports Transfer Grade: 87
A 2022 preseason All-Sun Belt selection, Cutler should see a quick path to playing time with the Buckeyes. He started at left tackle for UL-Monroe in 2022 and could very well take that same role with the Buckeyes, who have to replace their bookend offensive line starters in Paris Johnson and Dawand Jones. Cutler had a great 2022, evidenced by his performances against the likes of Alabama and Texas. He had to match up against star pass-rusher Will Anderson and only surrendered one sack and one quarterback pressure. Now he lands at an Ohio State program with a proven record of developing offensive tackles.

VICTOR CUTLER JR. LEARNING THROUGH GROWING PAINS, EMBRACING SPOTLIGHT AT OHIO STATE AS HE COMPETES FOR STARTING CENTER JOB

It didn’t take long for Victor Cutler Jr. to realize how much bigger the spotlight would be at Ohio State than at Louisiana-Monroe.

Upon announcing his commitment to Ohio State on Jan.18, Cutler received interview requests from several media members who cover the Buckeyes (including me). As a two-star recruit who received just one FBS offer out of high school, the transfer offensive lineman had never experienced that kind of media attention before.
“I called my best friend from back home, I was like, ‘Bro, you don't understand how many interviews I done did in like an hour, bro,’” Cutler recalled. “It's crazy. It's cool. I like it.”
Seven months later, Cutler is still enjoying all of the extra attention that comes with being a Buckeye. While Cutler’s family moved to Monroe, Louisiana when he was 11, he previously lived in Detroit, so Cutler is excited to be back in a big city again, too.
“In Monroe, I mean it's just a small town. It's just slower. So it was something I wasn't used to. But being there for almost a decade and now moving back to a city now that I'm older, I really enjoy it,” Cutler said Tuesday. “There's more stuff to do. I love my teammates around here. I love who I'm living with (Ohio State running back Evan Pryor) in my apartment. I just love everything I have at my disposal.”

Beginning at center, redshirt freshman Carson Hinzman appeared to be the leading candidate throughout the offseason based on practices open to the media. There’s now official word from Day that he’s the frontrunner at the spot, though transfer acquisition Vic Cutler Jr. remains in the running.

“Coming out of camp, Carson’s a little ahead of Vic,” Day said. “But that will keep working for the next couple of weeks, they’ll keep going at it in practice, we’ll keep evaluating.”

OHIO STATE CENTER VICTOR CUTLER JR. RE-ENTERS TRANSFER PORTAL AFTER ONE YEAR WITH BUCKEYES

Victor Cutler Jr. is back in the transfer portal after just one season with the Buckeyes.

Cutler, who transferred to Ohio State in January from Louisiana-Monroe, re-entered the transfer portal on Thursday as a graduate transfer, according to multiple reports.

The starting left tackle at ULM in 2022, Cutler transferred to Ohio State to compete for the Buckeyes’ starting center job, but lost that competition to Carson Hinzman. While Hinzman started all 12 of Ohio State’s regular-season games at center, Cutler played just 21 offensive snaps as a backup, appearing in just five total games.

Cutler has one remaining season of collegiate eligibility.
