C Trevor Thompson (Turi Svitavy - Czech Republic)

He's a project and we don't need him next year with Williams, McDonald and Lee in their final years.

From all the games I've watched, we need all the help we can get in the post...Williams and McDonald have been borderline sufficient so far. I want Amir to be successful but unless a light clicks on out of nowhere, I am not incredibly optimistic.

Too bad he cannot play right away (we need him next year), but I am stoked to have him here. If nothing else, he will push Amir in practice and make him better.

I'm torn about whether TT would help the team next year or not (of course that's if the NCAA grants the waiver). Next season the Buckeyes will have Williams, McDonald and Lee up front. Maybe the light comes on for Williams (here is hoping), McDonald improves (even a little), and Lee brings in the toughness the team lacked in the interior along with scoring, rebounding and defense. Would the team reallly want to waste a year of his eligibility for a hand full of minutes per game?

I am of the mind set that too many questions need to answered for this team next year and I do not think TT's presence and/or contributions can put this team over the hump to be a serious threat to the NCAA title, let alone the B1G title. However, if the this team comes together and Scott, Thompson, Williams, and McDonald games' improve; Loving improves leaps and bounds over his freshman campaign; and the incoming freshmen are as good as advertised (Russell, Diop and Tate are 5-star recruits on some or most recruiting services and add the offensive capability that this team lacked last year); and Lee comes in and plays as advertised (14 and 10 per game) then there is hope. Would TT be good enough to start or even play over an improved Williams and McDonald to even get into the rotation?

After throwing that out there, give him that year to learn the system, get stronger and come in with Harris, Mitchell and others as part of the 2015 recruiting class.

If the offensive players coming in the next couple of classes are as good as touted all he has to do is get garbage buckets, rebound and defend the rim. From what I've read he's pretty decent at the last two already.

I agree, the redshirt year would be good for Trevor. Not saying he couldn't be useful next season for OSU, as I think he would at least replace McDonald in the rotation, but it's not like he's Jared Sullinger coming in to cure all your problems in the froncourt. He could use a year to get stronger and work on his post skills most definitely.

BTW, why is this thread still in the basketball recruiting forum? Isn't he signed already?

The NCAA seems to be getting pretty liberal with their granting of that waiver, but I really wonder if this one will go through. As the Cleveland.com article states, his dad's neck surgery is the basis for the claim. I don't the severity of such a thing, so it'll be interesting.

Sitting out a year stinks for Trevor, but I agree with others on this board that he could use the year to add some weight. That, and I'd really hate to see McDonald's playing time cut to almost nothing for his senior year.

Well, I don't know if the medical reason would be good enough, but even if it were, the distance from Indy to OSU is farther than they allow that waiver for, for those reasons.

With Bell coming in at 6'9-6'10 at the 4 and Trevor coming in at 6'11-7' at the 5 this is a game changer. What I read tells me both need a year in the program before they can contribute, but that is a BIG lineup for the '15-'16 season. I haven't seen a 4&5 with that size combination in S&G for a long while. I hope they both develop well.

Considering these documents are on Ohio State letterhead and bearing Gene Smith's signature, I'm sure the waiver will be denied. Getting an exemption for a parents' surgery sounds specious at best, which doesn't even account for the fact that the breaks never seem to go our way. I'm sure if this kid wanted to go to Wisconsin or Michigan, he'd not only be cleared but have his career stats retroactively applied to previous years' teams. But that never seems to happen here.
