C Seth McLaughlin (All B1G, All-American, 2024 Rimington Award)

Thankfully it’ll be relatively seamless going to Hinzman….curious to see if they go Luke Montgomery at guard. I get the assumption it’ll be Sieverfield but Montgomery has played all OG this year, and came in as an elite 5*. Personally, I’ll take whoever the coaching staff believes helps the ground game the most.

It does suck….brutal injury to the most under-appreciated position on the field.

Time for Hinzman to step up (again) and for Montgomery to show us his 5* talent.

I like to look at size on interior…..to be honest, it’s gonna be Montgomery or Siereveld…I’m biased towards shorter guys on interior bc of leverage.

That said, Sierveld is listed as 6’5” and 320 lbs

Montgomery at 6’5” 310 lbs.

So they are both a bit taller at OG than maybe you’d want, which will compromise the run game some, but probably helps pass pro a bit.

Honestly, u have to roll with whichever guy has the ability to process the defense in front of them the best. IU runs so many stunts and odd fronts, I’ll take whichever guy has the higher IQ. I don’t know who that is, but this is a moment where I want to trust the guy who knows the assignment the best. It’s really that simple….

GTFOH . So Frye clearly has anything to do with 2 key linemen getting injured.
I said "may". There is a lack of depth. Recruiting has not been up to standard. There have been past discussions about it, which I won't rehash.
The Bucks have decent projects that need to be developed, but many aren't there yet.

Don't get me wrong, if this can be cogged together, Frye may come out smelling like roses. However, if productivity becomes a issue, and it costs OSU a game. There will probably be heat. There already has been with the recruiting.

My prayers go out to Seth for a speedy and full recovery. Time to focus on the NFL

But everything you said @billmac91 is where I'm thinking. There's still some good interior OL talent that can fill in

Really bummed for Seth, he was having a great year. As for the team, this is a major blow and we cannot have one more OL injury...frankly we already couldn't have this one happen. But Hinzman to center most likely and bring Siereveld or Montgomery in at guard (or a combination of both).

I can't believe we had Simmons, Zen and now Seth all go down. You hope there is the depth for "next man up" but you don't know until you see it in a live game and there are some pieces of the OL gone that are crucial. Wishing Seth a speedy recovery.

Feel terrible for Seth. Was having a great season and it's awful this happened to him.

This may be the downfall of Frye if Day doesn't bolt for the NFL.
What I for sure know is we for real can’t take any more losses on the OL.

Are people really going to blame him for 2 guys getting injured? So far, I've been impressed with him shuffling guys around and getting results. Expectations for the run game and offense overall have to be adjusted.

nah but some people on 11W (and eventually here) are acting like they might as well forfeit Saturday. I don't even check X or Facebook because I know exactly what will be there.

With the exception of the Nebraska game, Kelly's offense has done exactly that. And it is becoming more apparent that the Nebraska game may have been an aberration for whatever reason, likely due to having the wrong guy in place. They adjusted and moved on.

Injuries are gonna happen. Most teams don't have 6 or 7 proven linemen. Hopefully whoever gets put at Center (probably Padilla) steps up.

Yeah, maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I can't think of a season where OSU had such great OL depth that they could lose 1 starter much less 2. People talk about a lack of quality depth, but it's incredibly difficult to replace your LT and C without a dropoff.

At least this year they've had 7 different OL start or play a lot. That's more than usual outside of maybe 2006 when they'd put the whole 2nd OL in.

The center normally calls out the protections, and Indiana does a lot of DL movement. Hinzman has game experience with that so him at center could be more likely.

If they can spare it, they should keep Hinzman at G where he's playing well, I'd rather see if they can use the backup center and not move as much around. Especially if he can help with calls. But either way I'll understand the decision.

I could say I like Hinsman at C .,but this is Day making a decision with input from Frye and Kelly. I don’t think Day can take heat for this decision. We aren’t OL specialists. He may just go with his guy and I will back him ..he deserves my confidence for this.
