Incredibly sad. Entered Ohio State the same year I did and had a couple classes with him. Great person, and loved by everybody. Horrible news.

Absolutely. We'll see the tributes rolling in today and they are a testament to how he lived his life. Sad day indeed.

Damn. Just saw the news. Loved Nick as a Buckeye and although I'm not a Jets fan, I followed his career. Fantastic player and by all accounts a stand up classy guy off the field. It's a sad day for Buckeye Nation. Prayers for his family.

Genuinely curious…2 weeks from his plea for a kidney donor to now seems so fast.
If this was something he knew was coming since being diagnosed 19 years ago, does it just come down to “priority” in the donor world? Like his family would have been eligible if they were a match but he couldn’t request from the public until he met certain criteria, and by that point it’s too late?
Money does not solve everything but you would think he would have the means and reach to make it work if he could. I know there’s not always a perfect answer for an imperfect world and diseases will do what they do on their own timeline. Just sad.
Knowing what we know now, I just think how terrifying it must have been for him to reach the point of needing a public request and a miracle in such a short time.
My friends that listen to some podcasts he was on said he seemed in good spirits on his appearance a week or 2 ago. No surprise - the guy was a positive light and fighter.
One of the great characters and fun personalities to play the game - and was damn good at it too. Rest easy, Nick.
