'The Oden Year' could provide lifetime memories

Greg Oden came to Ohio State out of the mists of the past.
He summoned memories of the great big men before him - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a.k.a., Lew Alcindor, perfecting the skyhook because the rulesmakers would not let him dunk, winning three straight national championships at UCLA; Patrick Ewing, big and bullying, winning one title at Georgetown and losing twice in the championship game; and most of all, Bill Russell, changing the game without the ball, winning two straight championships at San Francisco.
Only the playoffs remain now for Oden, OSU's 7-foot, 280-pound freshman center. "Playoffs" is the term in the NBA, not "tournament season," and that's probably, given a feather-light class schedule, where Oden is headed.
