C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

I missed Greg playing today I was watching the Mount Union game....How did he look????:osu:

He looked phenomenal as expected. Cincy had like 14 pts in the first half. You can credit much of that to Oden.

Any word of when Oden may actually be 100%? It is hard to fathom how hard this team is going to be to beat when that happens.

What's sad is that he's discrediting their biggest and most obvious reason why they played like Vaughn's grandma in the first half. Now he's going to have to come up with something more creative.

There might be only 3 things that can stop this team: fouls, lack of confidence, and not executing. That makes this team a nightmare for coaches... and Oden fixes the one glaring weakness this team had early on. That's scary.

Oden needs just one arm to put opponents away

By Pat Forde

INDIANAPOLIS -- Greg Oden has played three games of college basketball, all of them with one hand tied behind his back. His surgically repaired and heavily taped right wrist might not be fully healed before he's doing the grip-and-grin with David Stern as the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft.

Tom Archdeacon: OSU's Oden already the difference

By Tom Archdeacon
Staff Writer

INDIANAPOLIS ? He's still not in shape. He's only playing with one good hand. He's just a kid ? still 18 ? and nowhere near the player he can be.
And when Ohio State got him this summer he "couldn't walk and chew gum."
Those were the postgame assessments of 7-foot freshman Greg Oden on Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse.
The last one ? the one about the gum ? was Thad Matta having some fun with a momentarily taken aback press corps. "I'm joking," the OSU coach finally said. "I'm joking."
He laughed. The media laughed.

I think we need some sort of stat chart/table to track his performances!
Seriously.

Bob Kravitz
Oden should (and next year will) be playing at the professional level

Heaven forbid Greg Oden gets hurt. Heaven forbid the Next Great Big Man falls the wrong way, tweaks one of those precious knees, sees the chance to take care of himself and his family for generations to come undercut by one unfortunate move.
Will the NBA and commissioner David Stern, who took away any choice Oden might have had to eschew college and go straight to the NBA, set up a fund to ensure him financial freedom for the rest of his days?
Let me offer an answer there:
No.
A couple million times, no.
"I don't know how you can take a young man's right to make a living away,'' said Jack Keefer, Oden's Lawrence North High School coach, as he watched Oden's Ohio State Buckeyes blow out Cincinnati in the Wooden Tradition on Saturday at Conseco Fieldhouse. "It's one thing in football; nobody's ever shown they can go from high school to the pros and be successful. But it's been proven in basketball, over and over again, that a kid can go from high school to the NBA with no problem.
"Greg should have had that right.''

Now that sounds like a lot of sour grapes.
I wonder and hope that Greg doesn't feel that way. I want him to enjoy his time at tOSU.

It's amazing how much impact Oden has on almost every possession at both ends of the floor. He demands a double-team when he posts up, and his shot-blocking ability allows the other defenders to stay closer to the shooters without worrying about getting beat off the dribble.

The drop-step move for the dunk while being fouled was great, but I was also impressed on a play that didn't happen. Oden set a screen at the top of the key, than rolled down the lane. He caught a pass just inside the free-throw line and was fouled right away. Without the foul, he was going to two-hand jam the ball without needing to dribble it. I will eagerly await that play happening.
