C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

Shoot me later if someone already posted this (I haven't read the previous pages on this thread), but Oden's going NBA. There's an excemption in the latest CBA that says a kid doesn't have to wait for the 19 year age limit if he's one of the first 14 picks. He aint going to college.

Oden is GUARANTEED to be in the Top 14 ..

Oden Breaking News...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SGN just finished speaking with Oden's Coach Jack Keefer. They are currently on the way to attend basketball camp at Purdue. At this time they are vehemently denying reports that Oden has picked Ohio State. They say that Oden will wait no longer than early July to make his announcement, and that his mind has simply not been decided at this time.

All other reports are still quoting the Indy Star story. Interesting line of thought Sloopy, hadn't heard that tidbit of NBA CBA news.

Sloopy45, have you followed Oden's recruitment at all these past few months? My guess, is no.

No. I know three things:

1. I saw the Oden piece on Costas Now, which interviewed him & his mother. His mom is drooling for the NBA millions (giving it to her tomorrow wouldn't be fast enough), and he's anxious to go NBA.

2. Oden is projected by every scout possible to be the # 1 pick in the year that he is eligible.

3. If what I said about the NBA CBA is true, then Oden doesn't have to go to college.

Add those three things together, and this kid will NOT be a Buckeye. If you have anything to refute this, please be my guest. I'm all ears.

That exemption, if true at all, makes no sense for a number of reasons. First off, how is someone going to know ahead of time if they would be a top 14 pick? Sure, it is obvious for someone like Oden that he would be, but it is still not official until the name gets called on draft night (remember that 7-foot Polish kid three years ago, Lampe is his last name, that everyone was so sure would be a lottery pick that the NBA invited him to be in the draft room - well, he didn't even get picked until the SECOND ROUND). So what if a kid decides to take his chances and not sign with a college and then gets picked 16th? What is his next option? And anyone that is going to get picked that high is going to have an agent already signed before the draft, which would cancel any potential NCAA eligibility. And usually, unless you are an amazing talent, these kids need the help of an agent to even get into the lottery. Feel free to correct me if I'm missing something.

PC Load Letter? What the fuck does that mean!?

Hey, I don't write the rules, I just read 'em. Go with your gut: do you really think this kid is ending up in college?

One thing to add, I would assume this exemption means a lottery pick who had not yet hired an agent. But still, what NBA team is going to draft a high-school kid in the lottery (the most crucial stage of the draft) without first knowing who his agent will be. Plus the team that would risk using a lottery pick on him would also risk knowing that the kid could easily turn around and go to college if he doesn't feel like playing for the team that drafted him. That's a big risk for a lottery team to take if they have nothing to show for that pick.

Sloopy, despite having you on ignore I had to check out what all the hullabaloo was in your post.

The reason you might want to brush up on the Oden recruitment is that he has said numerous times that he's going to college. Not like Kobe was going to Duke or Lebron might try a year in the NCAA....this is legit.

Ummm.. one thing.. and this has nothign to do with what I think Oden will do... because I have no idea... but in the NBA..especially if you are a rookie... you don't even need an agent... there's no deal to negotiate unless you want to go past teh 2 year minimum... and if this kid thinks he's a hot shot... why would he?

True, and I basically realized how little the teams may consider that part of it, but I definitely think teams would have legitimate concerns about the second part of my post happening to them. Sorry to hijack the thread.
