C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

Tight doubleheader to kick things off Tuesday night. (Cavs/Celtics, LA/Portland) I'm a big NBA fan, and last season was hot. But it will be even better this year with Lebron knocking on the door of his prime, Oden debuting, and Wade making his comeback following the summer of Gold.

Portland vs LA is interesting. Right off the bat we are treated to an Oden vs Bynum matchup. Two of the most talented young centers in the NBA, both sidelined by season long injuries the year before. Then you have Kobe and Brandon Roy..nuff said..

Real GM

The Trail Blazers exercised the fourth-year options on LaMarcus Aldridge, Sergio Rodriguez, and Brandon Roy while also exercising the third-year option on Greg Oden.
The moves, announced by GM Kevin Pritchard, keep all four players under contract through the 2009-10 season.

Oden gives NBA a big boost

For those of us with insatiable hoop appetites that reflect decidedly old-school sensibilities, this should have happened a year ago. But tonight, after a 12-month delay, pro basketball fanatics are finally getting a chance to unwrap one of the game's most precious gifts from the 2007 NBA draft on Tuesday late-night television.

In the TV guides, it's listed as the Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Portland Trail Blazers in the second nationally televised season opener for the NBA.

But we know what it really is: Kobe vs. Greg Oden.

This is the sort of headliner lure that the NBA was hoping it could have unveiled last year, a double-dip of rookie star quality with the 7-foot giant from Ohio State and the 6-9 string bean from Texas, Kevin Durant. They were supposed to be the double-threat rookie treat for hoops lovers last season. But when Oden injured his knee in offseason workouts before his original rookie season, we were all forced to impatiently wait to get a true glimpse of the potential of the NBA's next great big man.

That look arrived on Oct. 8 in Portland's Rose Garden, with 19,000 delirious Trail Blazers fans on their feet for the team's first preseason game. They were chanting "DEE-FENSE! DEE-FENSE!!!" like this was Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Greg Oden's fresh start Hype towers over ex-Buckeye

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Greg Oden isn't as concerned about living up to the hype surrounding his rookie year as he is about diffusing it. Oden turned down two national magazines that wanted to put him on their covers. And after a dunk to open his first exhibition game he has kept a relatively low profile -- well, as low a profile as a 7-footer can keep.
"Look, I'm just a rookie," he said, "I haven't done anything yet."
Expectations are high all around for the Portland Trail Blazers' upcoming season, which starts tonight at the Los Angeles Lakers, and understandably much of the focus is on Oden.
The Blazers took him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft, much to the elation of fans who had seen the franchise fall on hard times.
But the excitement turned to disappointment before last season even started, when Oden had microfracture surgery on his right knee. Although recovery can come as soon as six months, the Blazers erred on the side of caution and declared him out for the season.
