Big men, large numbers:

It was business as usual for two of Ohio's premier post players last weekend.

Solon's 6-9 junior Dallas Lauderdale came up with a triple-double of 32 points, 16 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 76-74 double-overtime victory at Mentor. Lutheran West's Richard Semrau, a 6-10 senior, just missed a triple-double in the Longhorns' 97-44 victory at Oberlin. An Illinois recruit, Semrau had 27 points, 21 rebounds and nine blocks.

When I think of Semrau, I can't help but think of how funny it is that he didn't even consider Ohio State beause we weren't a basketball school. Glad Greg Oden didn't think that. And glad Lauderdale doesn't think that.

OhioVarsity.......Lauderdale is profiled as the first of five Ohio basketball standouts selected by the Ohio Varsity staff as a candidate for the 2005-06 Mr. Basketball. Lauderdale is working on his mid-range jumper recongnizing that he will need to improve this area of his game for the next level.

I've never been that impressed with Semrau personally... I think he struggles big time on D. He's not quick enough to guard the 3, and not strong enough to guard the 4. He is a perimeter player in a post player's body. I really don't think tOSU missed out on much with him personally...

I would have to agree with your assessment. Semrau is a talented player but I don't think even if Matta had been at tOSU, that Semrau would have been a major target for tOSU. He needs to get stronger and he has slow feet for the 3 spot.

IF Oden were to stay for a second year, and Thad were to land Lauderdale (and Koufos as well), then tOSU's frontline will be unstoppable. I think you could easily put Dallas and Oden on the floor together and no one would be able to get a rebound or get a shot off...

Not to get off Lauderdale, but I honestly believe that Oden will stay 2 years at tOSU. Lauderdale is a very good shot blocker, not on Oden's level but very good none the less, put those two together and it would be extremely difficult for anyone to score inside the paint. With Lauderdale's wing span he is over 7'0. Throw in Koufos and that would be an intimidating front court.

Having Lauderdale and Oden in the same paint together is comparable to having both Ken Johnson and Shaquille O'Neal. That is gonna be a friggin' TOUGH duo to have to beat down low! Or to defend against, for that matter...

If we get Diebler, Lauderdale, and Koufos, I will seriously pee my pants. The possibilities of this team are unreal.
