C Dallas Lauderdale (Maine Red Claws - NBA G-League)

That would really be unfortunate, b/c I see Lauderdale as a 3 or maybe even 4 year player and with the guys we are bringing in a lot of them are going to be leaving early.

The only good thing out of this would be it could help us with Gates.

I would love that if this was the N.B.A type of playing. I could see him being in the gasol/nowitski mode but, team speed could hurt to badly in college style of games but, in some games would be funny to watch such a killing. lol

there have been some rumblings on BSB that Lauderdale is starting to have some concerns regarding early PT at OSU.

I don't believe that is a concern.

Matta loves an athletic player at the SF spot with a twin tower look at C and PF. He loves that reason and coaching style for the teams defense won't have a disability if it goes all big and he likes the 3 spot being a great outside shooter

I agree with you on this except for the fact that I view Lauderdale as being able to man the 5 position on occasion when needed.

cb40.....I also view Lauderdale as a 3-4 year player. He is not at the level where he will come straight in and start at tOSU and I mean no offense by that comment, I am simply saying he is still developing in some areas.

Apparently the talk of Oden staying at least 2 years is worrying him. Whether or not this amounts to anything remains to be seen.

I feel like he's looking at this situation one-demensionally (sp?).

First off, there's a big IF (a 7'1" one) in regards to Oden coming back for a 2nd season with the team. If he does though, he WILL be the back-up for what is believed to be the best big man to grace a college court since Shaq. Just think of all the things he could learn from Greg! Secondly, as the back-up to Oden (IF he returns), he WILL get time as a true frosh. Think back on Terwilliger this year. He backed up the Big Ten MVP and got a LOT of playing time, and the vast majority of that time was when the game wasn't a set-in-stone win. I mean, if your starting center goes into foul trouble, he's coming off the bench no matter what. Thirdly, as the back-up for Oden (again, IF he returns), he will get a lot of media attention. If he's a 1st string center caught behind Oden, both the college world and (maybe more importantly) the NBA world will definetly take notice. I mean, you don't think NBA scouts are going to be watching our games with Oden on this team??

Call it looking it at the situation optimistically if you want. I call it looking at it realistically. As far as I'm concerned, he has NOTHING to lose coming to his home state school while learning and playing under the tutiledge of an all-time great college center (...IF he comes back for a 2nd season) AND Thad Matta, college basketball's hottest coach.

Lauderdale is ranked as the #8 center in the 2007 class right now, if he performs well on the AAU circuit he could possibly find himself near the top 5 by the end of the summer.

It will be interesting to see how he performs against prospects on his level.

My guess is the staff told him commit now, or never. They seem to be in on a lot of bigmen for '07 and Dallas is probably getting the idea. People say his production has dropped of as of late, but I am not at all worried. Oden will be there and Dallas will have the time to develop. I have heard he is a Ben Wallace-type. Smallish center, but plays big and has a nice wingspan... a very smart defensive player who makes his presence known. I would be delighted for him to join us :).
