I agree they wanted a decision from Dallas, at one point, Lauderdale was the lone PF/C offered, but in recent weeks that has changed with offers to other top prospects. Basically, first one to verbal gets the spot.

Unbelievable if true. Matta is amazing. Maybe if he fills up the basketball recruiting class early enough, Coach Tress can borrow him and put him on the football recruiting trail. Heck, Matta could've talked Sidd Finch into skipping the pros to play college ball at Ohio State.

Lauderdale's got some long, shot-blocking arms. I think it might be time for Ken Johnson's records to be broken.

Lauderdale may have a shot at the record if he stays 3-4 years, but if Oden stays just 2 years, he will rewrite that record.

Matta is amazing.. .....if Lauderdale verbals to tOSU, we will have a top 5 class at that point and its widely known they are looking for a wing player to round out the class. 2 consecutive top 5 classes in basketball...now that is amazing.

My guess is the staff told him commit now, or never. They seem to be in on a lot of bigmen for '07 and Dallas is probably getting the idea. People say his production has dropped of as of late, but I am not at all worried. Oden will be there and Dallas will have the time to develop. I have heard he is a Ben Wallace-type. Smallish center, but plays big and has a nice wingspan... a very smart defensive player who makes his presence known. I would be delighted for him to join us :).
i dont know if thats how it happened. but id say its safe to say that they let him know where he stood on their priority list, and their feelings on him. i dont think he was forced, but id be willing to say the staff was upfront and honest about situation.

</H1>

Thursday, June 01, 2006

From staff reports

Dallas Lauderdale of Solon, one of the premier post players in Ohio, will make his college decision at a 4 p.m. news conference today at the high school.

The 6-9, 235-pound Lauderdale, who is completing his junior year, has led the Comets to consecutive Division I regional appearances and back-to-back Plain Dealer poll championships. He is a two-time Plain Dealer All-Star and a two-time, first-team All-Ohio selection.

Sources close to the college recruiting scene in Ohio said it will be no surprise if either Ohio State or Syracuse land Lauderdale.

OSU MEN’S BASKETBALL

The second Ohio big man on Ohio State’s radar in the men’s basketball recruiting class of 2007 will announce his choice of schools today and, as 7-foot-1 Kosta Koufos of Canton did last week, is expected to choose the Buckeyes.

Dallas Lauderdale, a 6-9 post player from Solon High School, near Cleveland, said yesterday that he will make his announcement at 4 p.m. today. He said he will choose from among OSU, Syracuse and Louisville.

Lauderdale was first-team All-Ohio in Division I after averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds as a junior. Recruiting Web sites rank him among the top 10 centers nationally in the 2007 class.

Have you ever seen Oden play? Believe me, its possible.

No, never even heard of him, and I certainly didn't name my dog after him... I'm just saying 6+ blocks/game for a frosh-soph, each season just destroying David Robinson's single-season record of 207, good enough to join the top-6 career NCAA blockers in half the time, is a very big prediction.

More to the point, hopefully Oden will have some big help lined up in 20 minutes!

I agree it could be a little bit of a stretch for him to break the record, but he did have 6 blocks in the mcDonalds all-star game and he didnt play the whole game.
