Mullens committed to Ohio State before playing a single minute of high-school ball. Since that time, he has developed into a dominating and athletic big man who leads the area in scoring (26.8 points per game) and rebounding (14.3) and is averaging six blocks.
In the 2008 class, Mullens is joined by fellow verbally committed juniors William Buford (6-5 forward) from Toledo, Walter Offutt (6-3 shooting guard) from Indianapolis and Anthony Crater (6-1 point guard) from Flint, Mich.
"I think about it all the time and I'll sometimes talk about it with my teammates at Canal. I think about being there with Walter and William Buford," Mullens said. "Whenever me and Greg Oden talk, I realize that college is a whole different level and I just have to keep getting better and better. In high school, if you see a 7-footer it's rare. You might get triple-teamed by a lot of 6-3 and 6-4 guys. But in college, I'm probably going to be going 1-on-1 against another 7-footer."
Mullens hopes to gain more experience over the summer playing with the likes of Oden.
"I want to learn some stuff from him," Mullens said. "I mean, you can't pass that experience away, a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year who's tearing up the Big Ten right now."

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
</IMG> KYLE ROBERTSON DISPATCH B.J. Mullens of Canal Winchester blocks a shot by Ben Hettler of Granville.
Losing momentum with each possession, Canal Winchester certainly felt relieved to get a Division II district semifinal with Granville last night to overtime.
Indians coach Kent Riggs had a strong hunch that, in overtime, his team would regain control.
"Obviously, we thought we were going to get the first possession on the opening tip," Riggs said, smiling and gesturing in the direction at 7-foot-1 junior center B.J. Mullens. Mullens scored on the first possession and Canal Winchester wore down Granville 73-64 in the Ohio Expo Center Coliseum.

My Take: Man I am really impressed with him...He has a soft touch around the basket, he can get up and rebound and block shots and moves well for a big man. Also looks to be able to pass the ball well out of the post and has a nice touch from the free throw line. The only thing I might question his is stregth, but he is only a junior so he still has time to fill out some more.
This is a good preview for me as I will get to see him tonite live...

Mullens had 20 points, 18 rebounds and nine blocks but hit just 8 of 19 shots from the field. Five of his baskets were dunks in a 73-48 Division II district championship game.
