Who cares who the next coach is. What we need is a certified proven GM that can turn us around. I don't want a GM/Coach... I doubt Saban will go to the NFL unless he has alot of GM powers. Ferentz might be a different story but if he keeps doing what he is doing at Iowa he will soon have the power to ask to be GM/Coach.

If we get the GM, the coach will fall into place whether it is a college coach or a NFL coordinator or an old NFL coach. Just give me a real GM!!!

On the Browns Scout.com page, the Insiders forum (which, btw, is the way the Bucknuts one should be run), Lane Adkins says he's heard serious rumors (and Lane is pretty reliable) about Scott Pioli and Charlie Weis. If they are changing coaches (which I'm ok with), that'd be awesome. Ferentz would be ok, so would Saban, but how many college coaches have REALLY worked? Not that many. I'd rather see Weis.

I can see Charlie Weis becoming a head coach, but why would Scott Pioli leave such a great position? You have a system in place that is working great. But that is just me thinking as a football fan.

Who's to say? More money (possibly), connections with Randy Lerner (yep) or the chance to build it all up again (I can see that). I think Pioli stays, but I know he and Lerner know each other well, and maybe he wants to start over.. I dunno for sure, but I sure do hope. :)

Maybe if Biatch is canned, we can get a new coach that knows he needs to get some o-lineman. Free agency, and the draft. They also need a stud pass rusher.
Courtney Brown, when he isn't hurt, is solid against the run, but dances with o-lineman when rushing the passer. Warren is a waste.

You would think having a #1, and a #3 pick on your d-line you would have a pash rush.

They also need a cover corner.

"Heard from a "good, reliable" source. Loss to Bengals will be the end of Butch. He expects Campo to take over as interim coach.

Said Randy and his brass held long meeting Sun night, agreed to give Butch one more week.

Way Mort made it sound, Randy is committed to axing Butch after next loss, regardless of when it was. Sounded to me like Mort though decision was already made ... but Randy wanted a little more time to prepare the in-season transition."

i'm tired of hearing the argument about how since some of the recent college coaches have failed, Ferentz won't be a good choice.

-Butch was successful at Miami because that place can basically recruit itself. He won with the talent that flocked to "the U". Cryami fans never thought highly of his gameday coaching abilities at all.

-Spurrier relied on a pass-happy offense to have a great career in college. But in the NFL, the defenses are just too good for that sort of shit to fly.

-Pete Carroll is a rah-rah type of coach that is great at recruiting. This obviously won't fly in the NFL for too long.

Kirk Ferentz has had a remarkable 3 year stretch despite very average talent. Each year, Iowa loses a lot of players and all the experts predict a down year. And each year, Ferentz somehow gets the job done. He has gone 20-4 in the big ten over the last 3 yrs. That's better than Tressel's 18-6, and tied with LLLoyd for the best conference record in that span. He is also 3-2 against michigan and osu in that span.

Ferentz is not a rah-rah guy that recruits talent and watches it win for him. He does not rely on any kind of gimmick game-planning that would fail in the NFL. His teams are prepared on gameday. They execute well. They are fundamentally sound. They play together as a unit. He has done an excellent job of coaching the offensive line, and we all know that to be the Browns biggest weakness. He is level headed and intelligent.

I see absolutely no reason why these traits can't translate to the NFL.

Of course with my luck and knowing the Browns, they will win just to piss me off. So whatever the spread I am betting on the Browns this weekend while I am in Vegas! That should finish it off :2004:

I am a life long Browns fan and it has been very difficult to watch this franchise since their return make all the wrong decisions involving personnel, coaches and public relations....

The main problem in Cleveland is that their recent drafts have done nothing on the field (ie Couch, C Brown, Warren, Winslow)....This new owner has gutted the entire front office and they have no real GM. Over the past few years, the draft choices have not panned out and whoever is evaluating talent, needs to be fired.

New England turns third and fourth round picks into very productive players, we cant even get our first round selections to play up to their so called potential. They have not gotten anything significant done with their free agent signings and Lerner for some reason won't pay top dollar for available free agents that could help right away.

They need to bring a real GM in and hire a proven NFL coach who has experience with rebuilding a franchise because to tell you the truth, it is embarrasing to watch the Browns on Sunday.

I still dont understand the Jeff Garcia signing, we will now be looking for a new quarterback for next year. Its time for change and they need to make it now, is losing one more game even important? The fact they are farther than ever from the being a playoff team and falling apart tells me that wether it happens this week or three weeks from now, that coaching staff must be gutted along with the front office and bring some people in who understand the NFL and what it takes to win on a consistent basis.
