Buffalo Bills (official thread)

Bills being very active this offseason, Pegulas are among NFL's cash-richest owners and showing it off a bit, which is a nice change from the latter Ralph years, and GM Whaley continuing to demonstrate his love of the bold move, especially in trades. (I will not be surprised at all to see him get back into the 1st round this year.) Whether it all pays off, to get back to the playoffs for the first time this millennium, who knows, but at least it's been a fun offseason.

They actually did pretty well with that Jerry Hughes signing, there was definitely a chance he could have made more on the open market. Bills D seems like a really cohesive unit right now, especially that D-line. FB Jerome Felton supposedly will sign on in a few hours to be McCoy's lead blocker, another nice fit for Rex's power game.

I couldn't find a Marlon Kerner thread, so I'll put this here:

Marlon Kerner named Bills' director of alumni
http://www.democratandchronicle.com...-kerner-named-bills-director-alumni/32231837/

Kerner was officially introduced as the Bills' new director of alumni a couple weeks ago, and he is charged with connecting with the hundreds and hundreds of former Bills who have not been part of the organization since they left, and try to bring them back into the fold.

"My job is to bridge the gap," Kerner said the other night while the current Bills were going through a practice at St. John Fisher College. "We have an ownership and coaching staff and personnel within the organization that really want the players to come back and be part of the organization."

Kerner played for the Bills from 1995-98.

I'm really pleased with the draft for the Bills. They are calling Lawson and Ragland immediate starters, with Adolphus at least a situational guy, added a couple of offensive guys (WR Listenbee, RB J.Williams) who seem likely to make the roster and possibly contribute, and Cardale might be the best non-1st-round QB pick of the draft, he comes into such a good position with time to develop behind the established 1-2 of Taylor/Manuel.

They also picked up "Baby Gronk", the TE/H-back out of Kansas State, as a local-boy UDFA, and I won't be surprised to see Oklahoma LB Eric Striker make the team, he seems like a Rex kind of player.

Offensive line is going to be a concern again for this team, but D should be improved, decent potential on offense. C'mon Tyrod, earn that big payday!

Bills reportedly won't pick up option on former 1st-rounder EJ Manuel

Three years after taking him in the first round of the draft, the Buffalo Bills reportedly have declined to pick up the fifth-year option on quarterback EJ Manuel, according to multiple reports.

Manuel, who was taken with the 16th pick in 2013, started 10 games as a rookie but only two last year, when Tyrod Taylor was injured. Manuel's passing numbers have decreased in each of his three years with the Bills.

This could be "good news" for Cardale (i.e. he might have just moved up on the depth chart).

I think it is pretty good news for Cardale - next year. EJ's contract is fully guaranteed for 2016, with zero savings for cutting him, so he's at least an serviceable backup QB for one more year. But then Cardale should be the clear #2 in 2017 (assuming Taylor is still around). Great spot for him to sit back and develop but also have a chance to contribute before too long.

If they're not going to pick up Manuel's option he's essentially a lame-duck QB and they should treat Cardale as the #2 if 12 Gauge ends up being good enough to be the backup...
