Buckeyes' Post-Texas Poll Rankings (merged)

MightbeaBuck

with hat in hand
How much will we drop in the polls? With the constant lack of respect given our team, combined with the losses by the other top ten BigTen teams, and that our loss happened at the very last tail end of the game to a higher ranked opponent: my guess is that I don't have a clue.

Logically we should fall to about eighth, but will fall much further - say the 12 to 14 area. I also imagine we will remain behind MeatChicken even though our loss was much less and to a MUCH higher ranked opponent. Every year I hope scUM's wheels don't fall off until after the OCC games, usually they let me down.

Milli usually picks us pretty accurate, and has a good breakdown on why.

Any opinions?

How far do we fall? Probably too far to get back in the NC hunt, at least unless and until a lot of other teams lose (especially USC and Texas). If we win out, we still have a slight chance to get back in the picture.

Honestly, I think we drop to about 8th or 9th. The national media seemed to be impressed by OSU's performance-they are giving them more credit, IMO, than a lot of people on this board (myself included). This was a loss, but not as ugly a loss as scUM and Iowa suffered today-we should have won-those two teams got reamed. As for Georgia, Florida, LSU,and Tennessee-they all have to play each other and will winnow each other down. Bottom line, Texas and USC are in the drivers seat big time-Texas will use this victory as a springboard over Oklahoma, IMO. I think we can easily be in a BCS bowl, but not the big enchilada.

i said this in another thread but i'm going to post it here also

i'll tell you one thing right now, if a team like say USC loses they might drop to #8, if OSU loses on the other hand we will drop out of the top 10 maybe even the top 15, the pollsters hate tOSU and always will, i see us next week ranked #13 after this game

All we can do is win out and hope one of the two teams loses. We can get back to number three by just winning out, this loss stinks, but it is very early. Ten. GA FL and LSU should all take a loss or two, so we are far from out of the picture. The other losses in the top ten today were ugly and should help cushion our slide a bit.

Losses by USC and or Texas won't help too much.

Remember two years ago? Oklahomo lost their last two games, and still played for the championship. And worse, they finished the season ranked 3rd even with back to back loses.

If the Prophylactics lose, they will still be a top three team. If Texas loses, they won't drop behind us, simply because they beat us. Besides other things having to happen (is that English?) either USC or Texas would have to lose twice.

I think the bigger question is: should prophylactics be capitalized?

I don't really buy into the conspiracy theories. If that were the case we would not have gotten a title in 2003.

I never understood the hard on the media seemed to have for the Sooners. As for USC and Texas I think the timing of a loss is key. If it happens late in the season it could vault us up to where we need to be. The Oklahoma thing was an odd situation and the exception rather than the rule. If we climb back into the three spot and one of the two loses I think we are in.

getting into the champ. game that year was only because we and miami were the only undefeated teams and the media said we had no chance, we come in year and year out a great team and the media doesn't say that we are good(with the exception of a few media members)

How far USC drops WHEN they lose will depend upon a couple things.
1) How high is the team they lost to ranked
2) When they lose
3) How lopsided the score is
4) How every other team in the nation prevails.

If OSU goes on to beat a top 15 Iowa, top 25 Minnesota, top 15 Michigan and wins the Big10 Championship, there is no doubt we should be poised to be contenders for the National Title if Texas looses to Oklahoma or TAMU and USC drops a game as well.

I don't think a 1 loss texas team will be ranked below Ohio State and I dont think they lose either. It would be good if Texas runs the table and dominates the rest of their schedule. USC should lose a game or two and the SEC will take care of itself, hopefully. That will leave us with a bunch of 1 loss teams and we are the 1 loss team that lost to the #1 team in a close game. Hopefully, that will give us the #2 ranking and chance for redemption. That's the most probable scenario, in my opinion, if we get the chance to compete for National championhsip.
