Buckeye Players Past and Present?

WoodyWorshiper

THINK, Before You Speak
Former College Pick'Em Champ
Don't know how this could get accomplished, but I think it would be pretty cool if somehow this site could attract current or past players to share their insights here.

"1XBuck" on Bucknuts is obviously one and I'll take it upon myself to invite him over. According to "1XBuck" not too many if any past players actually frequent the Bucknuts site. He would know, since he is still actively involved with TOSU functions.

As I mention elsewhere, there are a couple guys on the football team, and so far one guy on the basketball team, who are interested in contributing *something* to this site. My notion is their true contribution will be above and beyond posting, but I suspect that if they're involved on one level, they might be tempted to sniff around on others.

1xbuck, vlmarti, csuskeeter, and craigcorner are the ones off the top of my head that have ties to OSU players (or are players themselves, in 1x's case)

anybody figure out who planetclown was from a few months back? he hinted that he was closely connected to the program.

I think Artillerybuck, JRudz and Bucknut27 (outside of PC himself) are the only people who really knew who planetclown was. I wondered about Rob Kelly early on, but the more PC spoke, the more sure I was that it wasn't RK. I would be interested to know eventually, but he clearly wanted to keep it a secret, so I'm not sure we ever will.

Clarity,

I don't know how well the football staff/ university would like having players... if you could get an ok that would be great!! My younger brother is good buddies/ knows a few players (or is some cases players brothers)... if the ok is there they might be interested in talking (no starters that I know of, but I'm sure they could provide some insight none-the-less)

The folks he knows are mostly the UA crew (and through them he has met/partied with several others... off topic, but he has some great stories, example: when OSU played Miami in NYC, a few players went over to one of his buddies that lives in the city, and they threw a party and went clubing... he has several stories from that weekend alone)...

I think this would be great to have players of the past, to come in here and offer their views and opinions, but the present ones may be a little more difficult to come in. To have people like VLmarti in
here is interesting because I was unaware that he was Mangolds father and I certainly will hone in on much of his posts in the future.

Not that I don't read and respect all the other posts, I think our interests would be keener in the sense If we knew who they were. The Insights posted in this new Forum I hope will have a different form of focus, other than what we read in Bucknuts.

When I read posts like "Who will be the defensive player of the year" or "How many TD passes will Jenkins catch this year" are
somewhat unreal and how can you start a good thread with subject matter like that. I realize it's the Off Season and people throw these out, just to make a new thread. When I see threads of the above nature, I just don't care to respond and fly right by.

But subject matters of one like this thread do catch my eye. I have always been one not to sit in judgement of any player Past or Present. I figure they are out there on the field, trying thier best to perform and God forbid if they ever made a mistake to cost us the game could you imagine how he would feel If he decided to pop in and read all the ripping and bashing that people would lay on him?

Thats my only beef and concern. I guess we are all entitled to our opinion s and we can agree or disagree. I just hope we don't get into stupid pissing contests or shouting matches like we had in bucknuts. Good Luck to the sucess of "BuckeyePlanet Forums"

gb,

I suspect the university is going to feel that it's not in a position to tell players not to participate in an online community like this, but will definitely want them to limit themselves in terms of scope. Which is all well and good, because as an OSU loyalist, I'm not prepared for anyone (players included) to say anything even potentially damaging to the program. I want them to speak honestly about whatever they want (within reason), even if that means we get an entry one week about how hot some chick he met is.

My intention is not to encourage players necessarily to make use of the forum (although they'll be more than welcome) but rather to make use of tools we'll put in place to allow them to post "articles" or comments to their player profile pages. The stats engine will be able (even by my most conservative visions) to create profile pages with pics, game stats, history, background, etc. on given players, and fields will be included for them to include their own comments, keep a diary, whatever you like. As they do, it would be easy enough to feature their new entry on the front page of the main site. What will be nice for the player, is that once going pro, if they want their own site (http://www.mauriceclarett.com (edit - at the time of posting this, I didn't realize someone -- not Mo -- had already registered that domain name) for example), we can host it for them and offer existing stats, features and content in-line, or if they host elsewhere we can offer tools for them to still include out content on their site. Hell, I might go as far as to invite sites like http://www.keithbyars.com over after the fact as well.

Anyway, it's all conceptual right now, but suffice it to say that I'm very excited about the possibilities surrounding current and former player involvement
