Buckeye Planet Poll Week 7

I'm still of the opinion that USC beats Texas head to head. Throw out who they have played so far, the close games, etc...If they played today on a neutral field, USC wins.

I don't understand the hurry to drop USC after beating a VERY good Notre Dame team, AT South Bend, in front of a rabid fan base, after Weis had two weeks to game plan them. They didn't even play close to their potential and they STILL won.

I think it speaks to just how great this team is; They have the talent to blow you out, the heart to come back and the mental toughness to win a close one...that's a lethal combination. There is no consistent diagram for beating them.

I just remember all the Texas jokes that were all over this board.

VY jokes
Mack Brown jokes
Recruiting champ jokes etc. etc
Those all occured before:

1. VY posted a 171 pass efficiency rating and 67% completion percentage (both better than Leinart).
2. Mack Brown won two "big games" in the same season, and is still rolling.
3. Texas came to the Shoe and beat OSU fair and square.

However, the season is only half over and Mack Brown still doesn't have any championship hardware. Texas appears to be on a mission this season, no doubt, but college football history is littered with teams-on-missions that didn't win any championship trophies. I can think of about 10 Ohio State teams alone just in my lifetime that fit that description.

It's a long, long way to January. Most teams have just finished playing half their schedule, so we don't really know too much about who is better than who yet.

I didn't drop them after the ND game, I dropped them 3 weeks ago. I'm of the opinion that the '#1 until you lose' theory is total crap. IMO, Texas has simply played better football than USC this year.
