Adios
There have to be a few on here..

How long have you been playing? What do you listen to? What gear do you have? Etc.

I've been playing for seven years. Had lessons for 2.5. I'm also a gear head. Can't get enough of the stuff. I'm considering spending some money and buying one of these: http://cachepe.zzounds.com/media/quality,85/brand,zzounds/p36856h-f211f21d65d219fe765055c113de0e20.jpg
I used to hate those guitars, but lately I've started to like them. Probably because I've been listening to good ol' hair metal lately. I could talk about gear for days, so I'll just stop now (unless someone wants to talk gear ).

I do have a few albums and artists to recommend for you guitarists. Especially if you're into the ridiculous guys (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jason Becker, and the list goes on).

There's an album called Live and Beyond by Eric Johnson and Alien Love Child. One of the best live albums I've heard. Actually, it's just one of the best albums out there - live or not.

Perpetual Burn by Jason Becker is probably my favorite metal guitar album. If you haven't heard him, give him a listen. Even if you aren't into metal. He also has a sad story.. I can't imagine how great he'd be if he didn't have ALS. But anyways, Marty Friedman (Megadeth, Cacophony) also plays some on this album.

There's a guy from Cleveland and his name is Neil Zaza. Definitely give him a listen. I don't own any of his albums, so I can't recommend any. My old boss used to listen to him at work all the time, and I loved it.

Please give me some artists to listen to as well. I'm always looking for some new/different influences.

You ever been to G3? I am assuming you've at least heard of it since you like Satch and Steve Vai. I have attended twice... it's pretty amazing. And, if you haven't for some reason heard of John Petrucci, it's a good place to begin. Pretty sure he's your type of guitarist.

I'm not a guitarist myself, but I played drums for a bit while in high school...
I have a passion for music and though the guitar isn't my favorite I do appreciate.

I play, and I'm much more of a gear-head now that I can afford to be.... I've got two Gibsons- a Les Paul Standard and an ES-335, a Fender Jimmy Vaughn Strat, and a Schecter strat-style guitar. I used to listen to a lot of guitar music like the guys you've mentioned, but not so much anymore. Lately I've been listening to and playing a lot of classic rock.

Since you brought up Eric Johnson (and we're Buckeyes), I saw him live at the Newport years ago when he was touring for the Ah Via Musicom record. Absolutley amazing.

I just got a Martin auditorium (small/intermediate) style acoustic for my birthday. Best present ever! I'm just learning but this is something I've always wanted. Thanks, Honey! This is such a sweet guitar that I will never tire of it. Looks good but not a fancy Martin.

Music wise, I listen to lots of acoustic guitar. Pat Methany. Guitar heroes like; Bruce Cockburn, early Bob Dylan, electric guitar from Joe Pass.
Flamenco guitar from people like Pepe Romero, Ottmar Leibart, etc.
Lots of different styles.

Haven't been to G3, but there is a short video of Vai from G3 Denver on Youtube. Probably my favorite guitar video. If I want to be blown away, I'll watch it.

Indeed I have heard of Petrucci. I saw Dream Theater when PromoWest Pavilion was still PromoWest Pavilion. They played with Fate's Warning and Queensryche. A few years ago he was probably my favorite guitarist, but I haven't listened to DT for a while. His live tone = the best live tone I've ever heard. He also made zero mistakes! Crazy.

The Vai video I was talking about:

Congrats on the gift, Taosman. Martins are excellent acoustics. I got an Alvarez AD60SC last year. Not quite a Martin, but great for the money. I wish I had a way to record it. Haha

Amazing, amazing, amazing guy. A friend of a friend worked with him, and a project started as a result, so we spent time going through his videos and the documentary about his illness and how he has handled it. One of the most amazing musicians I've seen in any medium, and the fact that he's created ways to continue composing even while totally paralyzed save for his eyes is one of the most incredible stories I've ever heard.

Seriously, check this out. Worth it a million times over. It's long, but make sure you watch through the musical clips after the news story.

I've been playing on and off for about 4 years now, though there have been some long stretches when I didn't play much at all.

I have an early 70's Les Paul Standard (pretty sure either '73 or '74) that I got from my dad, which is a great guitar.

I also have a Martin DX1 acoustic that I play much more, which is also a great guitar and especially for the price and my skill level.

Awesome. What's the LP look like? I love vintage LPs. My dream guitar is a Gibson LP Silverburst from the early 80s. They were made as Silverbursts, but as time went by they started to turn green. I think it looks awesome. Here's one without much green: http://www.murchmusic.com/t12.JPG

I've been telling my parents that a Silverburst would be an excellent college graduation gift since I was in high school.

I did a search and didn't see that for some reason. I guess I'll expect a merge soon. :tongue2:

Pat Methany was given this........beast!
42String.jpg

Multiple neck are mainly used on electric instruments, where it is easier to fix another neck to the solid bit of wood that serves as body. Nevertheless some acoustic versions exist; the most famous one is the Pikasso, made by luthier Linda Manzer for guitarist Pat Metheny (although it had piezo-electric pickups).

I love Yngwie's tone. He can make that Strat scream.

I forgot about this Jason Becker video. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Iz3RHZNDQ"]YouTube - Jason Becker - Serrana[/ame]

EDIT: Holy shit! Have any videos/recordings of someone playing that guitar? Haha

Shoot, I saw him live a few years ago and he played a half-dozen guitars or so, but not that one... too bad!
