Wow, not sure what brought me to this thread today. Not a fan of Brian Kelley. Like many, enjoy a bit of schadenfreude when it comes to Notre Dame. Feeling a bit guilty/ashamed as I was considering piling on a bit. For some reason decided to reacquaint myself with the scissor lift incident ... which happened on this very day 6 years ago. While our passions and rivalries run deep, I guess I'll refrain from my original intentions and remember that Declan Sullivan's family and friends are probably reliving one of the worst days of their lives today.

RIP Declan Sullivan (May 26, 1990 - October 27, 2010)

He loved Notre Dame football, and he loved videotaping football practices for the Athletic Department ... That’s what he was doing on October 27, 2010, an extraordinarily windy day (the National Weather Service recorded wind gusts at 50 miles per hour) when the hydraulic scissor lift, from which he was filming practice, keeled over at 4:50 p.m., taking his life and bringing on every parent’s worst nightmare — to be preceded in death by a son or daughter.

Alison and Barry Sullivan had issued a statement three days after their son’s death. It read in part: “Declan loved Notre Dame. The grief we feel is tempered by the knowledge that Dec was doing what he loved in the place he most wanted to be.”

And the sick, arrogant ND administration preyed upon that "love for Notre Dame" to pressure the family (and Lizzie Seeberg's) into a quick financial settlement and non-disclosure agreement. I seriously don't know what it is about that creepy university that would cause parents to not go to the mattresses in a clear case of the negligent manslaughter of their son that was whitewashed and swept under the rug. But I guess "love for Notre Dame" trumps all.

ORD - Not sure I follow in this instance. Granted I have limited knowledge, but from what I read thru today, it doesn't look like the Sullivan family even pursued a lawsuit or asked for any type of compensation. I think the prevailing sentiment in many articles was that the family could have filed a wrongful death suit and been awarded many millions of dollars. Without doing some exhaustive search, it seems their attitude was that nothing would bring back their son and they would make peace with that on their own terms. Without info or comment on the ND administration's role in this, I would say that's quite a remarkable stance from the Sullivan family. Maybe I'm giving them more credit than they deserve. Did they receive a settlement and sign a non-disclosure?

Good God, that's even worse. That's even worse. They just put their kid in the ground with no demands for an open investigation or desire to see ND's official storyline challenged in any manner. And we call Ped State a cult.

I think its pretty well documented that Church likes to keep any settlements quiet until some meddling kids expose it.
