Packers QB Favre to return for 17th year

CHRIS JENKINS

Associated Press

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Maybe he was having too much fun with a young team on the rebound, or couldn't resist going after a few more of Dan Marino's records. Or perhaps, in keeping with Groundhog Day tradition, he poked his head out the front door of his ranch in Mississippi and saw his shadow. Whatever the reasons, Brett Favre will be back for another season with the Green Bay Packers.
"He didn't tell me exactly why he wanted to come back," Packers general manager Ted Thompson said. "Other than in our conversations prior to the end of the season, I knew he was having a good time and he liked the team."

All time records Favre should be able to pass this year... GB link

All of that said, he is an icon to the sport, and I can understand that he deserves to go out on his terms. That being said, I am just afraid that his last season will be the one people remember. He's not getting any younger, so odds are his last season won't be pretty

So it would be bad for him to go out while breaking a number of NFL QB records???

So does that mean Brett Farve is the best QB ever?

There's a debate. There would be no doubt that it was Marino had he won a Super Bowl....but Farve has....

I don't know if Marino was the best qb ever.
Winning a Super bowl doesn't necessarily make a QB.
Some Qb's are better passers as Marino was. Some qb's are better qb's over all. Perhaps if Dan was a better qb over all he would have won a couple S.B's.
There are an awful lot of great qb's since the NFL began and even before. we need a Vpoll on this. So we need a list. Jurgenson, Y.A. Tittle, Dan Fouts . Heck there are too many haha.

Brett Favre to return next season. Says he looks forward to playing next season and making a run for the ring.

Must be on the pain pills again if that retard thinks he has any shot of a ring. :slappy:

Hope his bell gets rung bigtime next year. Love it when aging athletes try to come back and end up on injured reserve.

So have your pathetic hopes been dashed for 14 straight years? Or only about 7 since he moved into the aging category?

Is Farve's performance the last two years or so, been because of his age or because of him pressing his game in order to make up for the lack of his supporting cast? He has always been a strong competitor but that won't stop the aging process. His decision making has suffered recently and that is what really hurt him. No question that he can't zing the ball in like he used to.
Still he is better than 3/4 of the qb's in the league.
However that won't win a super bowl

I don't cheer for injuries. I just laugh when they happen.

But his pathetic play over the last few years and the media's continuing fawning over him (witness the pass he got when he laughed his way through the playoff loss to Minnesota) has provided me with enough yucks. And his pathetic addiction to pain killers to boot.

He needs to quit . Period. late great hanger oners suck. The Pack needs to get a new kid ready. Lombardi wouldn't be playing him.

Do I need to post the QB stats from the final game of the season against the Super Bowl bound Bears? And, yes, Lombardi would...

So who exactly would Lombardi be starting? Rogers? Drew Stanton?

The packers would be better off to fill other needs this offseason, then see what they can find in next year's FA/draft.
