He's clearly a decent coach. If he puts a good staff together and can recruit, then who knows? We might luck into one of those years like Auburn had with Gus and Cam.

A sizable percentage of Arkansas fans wanted Gus Malzahn (not me), but I'm certain he was never really a candidate. There were a lot of other names bouncing around, but from what I know, Bielema was always one of the top 2 or 3 targets.

Pulling a successful coach away from another school in what is essentially a lateral move isn't quite unprecedented, but it isn't that common either.

He might actually be as big a douchebag as what y'all say, but he's our douchebag now, so I'm on his side.

I'm sure y'all can relate.



But no freaking way he can be worse then JL Smiff. I mean, that's just not possible, is it?

Please tell me that's not possible.

My wife's dumbass dog 'Fanny' could out coach JL Smiff.

I think Coach Urban Meyer needs to poach an Oklahoma recruit, just to pay back Tillman's idiocy.

You are most likely in for a world of hurt for the next few years. He got some decent recruits under the radar and bitched about Urban flipping one of his recruits. The SEC is a different animal and I don't know if he is prepared for it. But at least you don't have to worry about him hooking up with a coed, as his wife is around 25 I believe. But, yeah, good luck Smoov. Keep us updated on the weird, fun press conferences.

"Knowing how" is an excellent recruiting tactic for intimidating the competition.

No fears, though. Wisconsin will never be without an astounding excess of douchebaggery.

Well Smoov, we clearly all hate Bielema here. From an unbiased as possible standpoint, it is for good cause. I have almost zero qualms with Barry Alvarez, who was pretty darn succesful against us and really made me hate Wisky. However, he was a pretty classy guy and a respectable coach. Bielema wasn't as succesful but was a HUGE, HUGE douche. I have forgot more instances of douchebaggery than instances I can even remember. He won't change that, but maybe he can win in the SEC. He really couldn't recruit well in the Big 10 though, so I really have doubts that he can in the SEC. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry, Smoov. He's clearly not a decent coach. The thuggery and dirty play. Dancing on the midfield logos of other teams. Losing against quality opponents more often than he won, by a large margin. An inability to recruit, except when he raided Ohio State during the sanctions uncertainty. Even then, the minute there was certainty, his inability to close the deal shone like the noonday sun.

He took your job because he knew that he had benefitted from Ohio State sanctions and a really down B1G the last two years. He knew that the B1G was about to become a faster type of football, spreading the field more, and that his model would not be successful. The evidence was in his record this year. When he lost to Ohio State at home and posted such a lousy record this year, he realized that his ability to negotiate a contract with such a high sticker price would be gone by the time he left Ohio Stadium next year.

And that's where he &**&@$ his big boy pants.

Good luck. Enjoy the hire. But don't buy into identifying with this guy. You're only half-right when you say things like, "he's our douchebag." He's in this for himself and it won't be long before you guys are raiding the Athletics Department to get him fired.

We'll see him again as the coach of a MAC team (or equivalent) in the not-too-distant future.

I had a thought.

One of Bielema's main gripes about Wisconsin, which he claims led to this decision, is that Wisconsin wouldn't spend enough money on assistant coaches, right?

I may be wrong, but in my mind that probably stems from Chryst taking the head coaching job at Pitt and taking some of the Badger staff with him and possibly the high turnover of his staff over the years (although I am not familiar enough with that to say for sure).

In Bielema's mind, he couldn't keep quality assistants on his staff because Wisconsin wouldn't pay them enough.

The much more likely scenario, however, which apparently never crossed Bielema's room temp IQ mind, is that no one wants to stay on his staff in the first place no matter how much money they are getting paid because he is such a giant POS douchebag.

I wonder what excuse he'll come up with when he can't keep assistant coaches at Arkansas?

Y'all may be right. Time will tell.

I realize that there is nothing I can do about it now except be a supporter of the team and coach, and hope for the best.


I also realize that everyone sees the world through their own window and one man's douchebag is another man's hero.

Nick Saban is arguably the world's biggest douche. He was also an 'average' coach at Mich State. He was a step better at LSU. It wasn't until he got to Alabama that he became NICK SABAN.

Les Miles is arguably a functional retard. He was an average coach at OK State. But if you give a retard the talent and resources found in South Louisiana, you get a coach that can back into a National Championship with two losses.

Gene Chizik is (was) demonstrably a horrible coach, a douche and a retard. He caught lightning in a bottle with Gus and Cam. By hook or crook, he managed to win an NC with those two guys on staff. I could argue that CammyCamJuice was as much a product of an experienced and talented O line than anything else, but I suspect that argument would be lost here.

There is much said about the character and personality of other beloved, winning coaches as well, but there is no need to get into that here.

Before you accuse me of equating Arkansas with those schools, I'm aware that Arkansas isn't Alabama and LSU in many respects. But we are not devoid of talent, tradition and resources. Much has been said in this thread about Arkansas and the recent coaching search that is flat-out wrong, but there isn't any point in trying to refute it.

The fact is, with the right assistant coaches and a little luck in recruiting anything can happen. Even Urban Meyer became human when he lost a whack of assistants and his own personal Jesus.

Wisconsin isn't without tradition, resources, and talent as well...and Biff Tannen Bielema was owned by tOSU. I understand your position. We'll have to wait and see of course, but I'd bet real money he doesn't do a fucking single thing worthy of your trust. He's a crybaby bitch that liked to take shots at the one elite team in the B1G. I can't wait to see how often he fucks himself verbally in the SEC.

Saban's record may have neen avg at MSU, but most here knew he could coach. Had tOSU played MSU in '98, we probably would've been in one hell of a game.
