Bret Bielema (HC Illinois)

He avoids Urban Meyer: He'll never get into the SEC championship game, let alone a BCS bowl matchup. So, he'll claim to have "owned" Ohio State or at least to have been very competitive. "I'm sorry that I didn't really get a chance to aveng that loss to Meyer. One bad call reversed and we'd of won it. I did very well in Columbus, we owned Ohio Stadium. I'm really looking forward to that opportunity. We'll see if we can't get them on the schedule." (read that last sentence again)
Did he really say that? He knows people have records of those games right? And that we all know he never even won in Columbus as a head coach?

Not sure how he'll be able to claim to have owned OSU or at least to have been very competitive when his career record against OSU stands at a laughable 1-5.

He doesn't claim to have owned Ohio State, but to have owned Ohio Stadium, a place he NEVER won a game as head coach. And that includes 2011, when he theoretically had a far superior team.

How did we miss this one?

What bad call is he talking about? Or is he saying that it would have been a bad call if it was reversed?

I'm submitting my resume today. Obviously the highlight would be "Revered poster of BuckeyePlanet." I'm not sure where to go from there though. Does bumping into Alvarez once count? I'm concerned I might be over-qualified.

Be sure to list your experience playing the NCAA series on Xbox.

So what did the sports do before the mega huge TV deals for football? Did they hitch rides to the games in East Lansing and Iowa City?

Hell no, the University funded them and had they not wanted to fund them, they would have folded the team.

Makes you wonder then, doesn't it, how Stanford has been able to field such a vast athletics program for decades without significant money from the football team - it's all because the university wanted the sports to exist first and foremost. Having a successful football program makes it much easier for Ohio State (and recently, Stanford) to pay for the other programs.

The huge tv deals aren't the only place the money has come from football.

Stanford's athletic department is still self sustaining, they wouldn't run 35 varsity sports if it tapped into the universities funding:

Sure if Ohio State didn't have football and DECIDED it just had to have a pistol and rifle team it could do so. Do you think in a million years this would happen? Not a chance in hell the university is going to take away from academics to fund programs that while it's neat that we have them add very little actual value to the university nor should it.

The 34 other sports exist because of football and to a lesser extent basketball revenue, to think otherwise is straight nonsense. Short of the women's scholarships needed to balance things out for title 9, having that many sports illustrates the excess of riches that speaks to the fact that you can afford to spend on your football program..which Ohio State has decided to do by providing SEC style assistant salaries. This has nothing to do with Ped State and even bringing them up is silly, this is just major college athletics.

So anyone else think Bielema was viewed as the top candidate for this job simply because he was already married to a gold digging young blonde? Certainly he wouldn't need to go after another..
