Since ya'll are bitching about Ohio Cities..

Ranked in Order of Population (With an interesting fact about each)

1) Columbus (711,470)
Violent crime events per 100,000 people: 856

It is a longer distance from Columbus to Cincinnati, then from Cleveland to Ann Arbor.

2) Cleveland (478,403)
Violent crime events per 100,000 people: 1,324

3) Cincinnati (331,285)
Violent crime events per 100,000 people: 1,123

4) Toledo (313,619)
Violent crime events per 100,000 people: 1,028

5) Akron (217,074)
Violent crime events per 100,000 people: 600

Dayton (166,179)
Violent crime events per 100,000 people: 1,015

EDIT: Akron's crime rate is above average in Ohio.. so you can only guess what they say about the other cities...

Are you going by direct "as the crow flies" distance? I don't think driving distance is longer from Columbus to Cincinnati that from Cleveland to Ann Arbor. Going by exit numbers, Columbus is about exit 110 off I-71, and Cincinnati is about exit 0. Maybe 1 or 2. So that's about 110 miles. Cleveland is around exit number 160 off I-90. Toledo is approximately exit 70. Ann Arbor is then near exit 35 or 40 off 23. That's about 125 or 130 miles, not including the mileage from I-90 to Michigan (maybe 10-15 miles). I'm sure Mapquest or MSN maps can give more exact numbers.

But maybe it is "as the crow flies," in which case you could be right.

Scooter - awesome! I agree, assuming you're saying Columbus is the best city in Ohio.

martinss01 - That commercial is disgusting! The funniest part of that commercial is that I saw it 3-4 times before I understood it. It was so gross, I couldn't watch it, and that's the point. "Without sports, this wouldn't be disgusting."

Sorry, no. We just don't bow down to the "great" Cleveland area and kiss Clevelands ass. Cincinnati has it's own identity that is awesome and Cleveland can't stand that there is another great city in this state. EXACTLY....Cleveland is a fine city...but the attitude of 'arrogance' and the constant 'Cincinnati is a part of Kentucky' cracks get OLD.

Is it OUR fault that UC and Xavier make the NCAA tournament every year? is it OUR fault that the Reds have 5 World Series titles...Is it our fault that the Bengals, for ALL of their horrible sucking, have STILL been to two Super Bowls?

We have a lot of reasons to be proud of our sports down here...but the 'attitude' and 'hate' for Cleveland is a return reaction for the 'attitude' and 'hate' that was shown to us.


btw...I hate UK with a passion...We can't help that their fan base is so large here...maybe it has a lot to do with UK playing annual basketball games in Cincinnati...maybe it has a lot to do with the 'UK Caravan' (media and coaches) making annual trips to Cincinnati....

Maybe if OSU would do similar things in Cincinnati the support here would be greater...? I mean, I am always reading about Coaches, the band, players, etc..in every OTHER part of our great state BUT Cincinnati.

i wish i could find that commercial somewhere. i remember the first time i saw it i just sat there in complete shock for about 10 seconds unable to get past how wrong what i witnessed had been before i got it. the commericial is symbolism at its finest and proves just how deep the rivalry really goes.

first off you did watch it. you just admitted it :wink:. and no, the strong emotional tie you as a fan and person have to tOSU, scum and "the game" as well as the countless others who share those feelings is the point. its the fact that a guy with a word on his shirt and a girl with a word on her shirt kissing can make such an impact on you. THAT my friend, is the point :wink:.

imo this was one of the best commercials ever made. not because i liked/disliked the subject matter. but because of how effective it was at conveying a point in 30 sec or less.

How could you be both a Reds/Indians fan and a Bengals/Browns fan....as a Bengals fan I hate the Browns almost as much as scUM and I'd hate the Indians the same if they weren't so pathetic.

That's the point dangler...we Cleveland fans don't care about Cinci. You guys try to start a rivalry that doesn't exist. Cleveland hates the Steelers. And the Yankees. I for one don't give a shit if the Reds or the Bengals do good. Why would an Indians fan care about the Reds...we aren't even in the same conference.

Grew up in Toledo - Buckeye Fan
Went to University of Dayton - Buckeye Fan
Live in Cincinnati - Buckeye Fan

Not sure where Herbie got his info from, but I know plenty of people from Cleveland that are Browns/scUM fans (including two long seasons of living with three of them in college) and people in Cincy that are Buckeye fans. Let's not forget that the family of our future QB have always been Buckeye fans.

Two things that I've realized about people in Cincy is that they are very loyal to the college they attended so you have alot of people who follow UC, UK, and Miami (OH). Second many would rather take in a Friday night GCL game than a college game on Saturday.

I'm sure these numbers are city limits. The metropolitan area of Cleveland and Cincinnati more than triple those numbers, but I don't think the same is true for Columbus. Cleveland and Cincinnati are much more suburban.

As for me, I grew up in Cincinnati, and lived in Columbus as a student. I grew up with plenty of Ohio State fans, but the area has lots of colleges with decent athletic programs (Lexington is not very far away). This tends to lower the number of Ohio State fans. Not to mention all the Catholics who feel that their religion requires them to root for Notre Dame (I'm Catholic, so please don't throw stones). Anyway, saying Cincy people hate Ohio State is a stupid and ignorant statement. Hated to see it.

Finally, I now live in the Detroit metro area, and work in the city of Detroit. Man, you want to see a town that is a complete dump! Holy crap, it looks like a demilitarized zone. I can't believe the Super Bowl will be here next year. There are actually plans to put up fake facades over all the closed/burnt out buildings in the city so things "look" better. What a crap hole! All I can say is Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Beruit residents should be glad they don't live in Detroit. Stop on by sometime. It would be a great vacation. You will get to come back to your hometown loving everything, even the things you hated before. Because hey, at least it's not Detroit.

Actually, to be honest, if you were given a year to live by your doctor, Detroit or AA would be the two places I recommend you go to.

Of course the population only counts who lives within city limits.. because that's their true population. Regardless, I was only throwing it out there to show that the cities are all basically the same.. the only two which deviate from the pattern in that list is Akron and Columbus.
