Brady "XLLL" Hoke (Head Coach San Diego State)

Cols Dispatch -- 4/11/12

"As far as I know, it's never been about the coaches. It's always been about those two schools and that rivalry and the intensity of that whole week when you get ready to play each other. What a great game and a fun game it is to play in and coach in." - Brady Hoke

He's been saying this ever since we got Urban, and I think it's a load of bull[Mark May].

You can't tell me this rivalry has never been about Woody vs. Bo. You can't tell me SCum fans didn't brag about Carr's record vs Ohio State when Coop was in charge. You can't tell me we didn't praise Tressel for his stellar record leading us in the annual wolverine slaughtering. And you can't tell me Coop and Carr (and Dick Rod, to a point) didn't get fired in large part for not getting the job done in this rivalry. Since the days of the 10-year war, the coaches have not only been a part of the rivalry... they've been a HUGE part of the rivalry. The reason Hoke started saying that was that I think he's intimidated about Urban and what we've got going on down here (since his bit about us getting the hammer laid down on us by the NCAA was full of baloney). He wasn't saying "it's never been about the coaches" before Urban got here.

And furthermore, if the rivalry wasn't about the coaches, isn't Hoke's incessant use of calling us Ohio doing nothing but calling attention to himself as part of the rivalry?

Do you have a retort, Brady?

I am not a good retorter but there was one of those fellows from SN who asked me about my success last year. I told that retorter and he wrote this article.
Sporting News gets it right! I deserved more than 3 votes for coach of the year, I know I am good, but I told that retorter this isn't about Brady Hoke!

I had to check my ego and attitude at the door when I gave the SN retorter that interview.
This game is all about the kids, so I told them we failed!
Sure I deserved more recognition last year for what I did in bringing a bunch of scrubs and Rich Rodriquez leftovers to an elite level of performance, but I am so humble that I chose to say "we failed," even though I know personally I was successful and deserve the glory.
So that's my retort!

Todd Porter: Brady Hoke, Urban Meyer rev up OSU-Michigan rivalry
By Todd Porter

CANTON TWP. ?

When a rivalry turns lopsided, it isn?t much of a rivalry. So when Jim Tressel was running the tables on the University of Michigan, the greatest rivalry in college football lost a little of its zest. Just a little.

But it is heating up again and with Urban Meyer?s fearless verbiage and Brady Hoke?s ?I don?t give a damn? mentality about what comes out of his mouth, the next few years will be interesting.

Hoke came into the heart of Ohio State?s recruiting territory Monday. He was the guest speaker at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club at Tozzi?s on 12th. He spoke here Monday, then spent the night as he will speak in Massillon on Tuesday night at the Massillon Tigers? annual spring kickoff.

Stark County is important to Hoke. He has a verbal commitment from Marlington?s Dymonte Thomas and Massillon?s Gareon Conley.

?It always has been important,? Hoke said. ?I used to recruit this area when I was at Michigan before. I think the quality of coaching, the quality of players and the passion people have is great.?

Rivalry and scUM

There can be no rivalry without serious emotional conflict. In the case of OSU/scUM the participants have been "taking it personally" since the two schools started playing football. Rivalrys are built from bricks made of hatred and use revenge as the mortar that binds them together. cHoke is either all-in as far as the rivalry goes in which case he must be emotionally committed or he is just another freaking Rodriguez in a fat man suit. We all know that he is all in and these attempt by him to hide that fact reveal him to be fearful; a guy that is hedging his bets in public.

I hate the scUM and everything about them. My oldest daughter refused their recruitment overtures (soccer) because she learned to hate them and my second daughter (now looking at schools) refuses to consider them. My son won't wear anything with yellow in it if he is wearing Navy blue.

I went to tOSU, Johns Hopkins and Stanford....but I am a BUCKEYE to core! I wouldn't touch anything on the scUM campus with a [Mark May] covered stick
