Brady "XLLL" Hoke (Head Coach San Diego State)

An appreciation of Hoke making it easier to hate TSUN's coach. But honestly, why should Buckeye fans need any help in that? The way I see it, however, he has managed to create new reasons to gloat after a Buckeye victory in The Game.

CBS sports has a love fest of TSUN and The Toad. Then I found this shit underneath the TSUN fuck fest.

I didn't see it anywhere else. I threw my mouse across the room after reading that crap. Take your shots now CBS...it all comes back around some time.

Do what I do and stop reading this tripe and you will save the mice.

Since you say it talks bad about Ohio State, it has to have been written by Dodd. Right?

Let me guess, he portrays Ohio State as the worst thing to ever grace college football? Am I right?

From the 110's to the middle of the NCAA pack because of Mattison and some swagger talk?

I agree with the 7-5/8-4 projection but I think you are over estimating the defensive improvement.

It depends on 2 guys, Will Campbell and Mike Martin. Martin has to stay healthy and Will has to be a player. Will is the key to defense this year.

So you are correct, if will does not pan out, we are in the 90's.

I dont know about that...its been the secondary and the linebackers that have been atrocious. They've had decent players on the defensive front.

We get two guys back in the secondary this year and both need to stay health. At CB will have a sr and a jr.

Here is a quote from the source himself.

"[Mattison] said, 'We're not going to run this defense if we don't have a 3-technique that can get the job done,'" Wolverines standout defensive tackle Mike Martin said. "He's talking right to Will. Even during condition, he would call him out and say, 'We need you. We need a 3-technique. If you can't do it, you just let me know. No hard feelings.'"

Like jax said my prediction on being in the 60's may be a bit low. Being it appears our defense scheme we want to play is on the shoulders of a player who converted to offense last year.

IF Mattson can teach them pursuit angles, tackling and to line up correctly that is a huge leap.

Did you hear Martin's quote during Spring Practice? He said one of the differences in this years staff is they actually stopped the tape and discussed things while watching game film.

What? Please no coaching

I remember a Hoke comment in spring ball, "We need to teach them the proper way to fight of blockers" What? They don't know, SOB

Wow... that's pretty ground breaking stuff.... First Barwis brought strength and conditioning into the 20th century (yes, I said 20th century and I know we are in the 21st) ... and now the DC is doing this "film breakdown stuff"

Sooner or later Michigan's defense is going to be a pretty stout tissue rather than a wet tissue.

just saying, sounds like this staff had to start from scratch with some of these of guys, which is sad in it's own right.

There's no question that the staff had to start from scratch with those guys. In my view, Michigan has 1 guy who can play defense. Mike Martin. The rest - including "T-Wolf" and "Big Will" - need more work than their years in the program would otherwise suggest.

Here is what I like about how this is setting up...

  • Tressel would never let up on TSUN but, after such domination, there was a chance this year that Ohio State might have taken TSUN for granted. Not much of a chance, but a chance nonetheless.
  • So, all of the pressure was on the Ohio State side of the field for a game in AA. You win, well, you were supposed to win. You lose, well, you got the second coming of Bo.
  • So, now we have a TSUN coach who thinks he is shouting the odds. Expectations are rising. We have an Ohio State coach who is viewed by TSUN fans as "wet behind the ears".
  • We have an Ohio State coach and team that have something to prove. http://www.detnews.com/article/20110801/SPORTS0203/108010354/Buckeyes-say-turmoil-will-motivate-them
  • Luke Fickell? Mike Vrabel?

Coaches allowed at conditioning?

Since we are on the the topic my other two thoughts regarding scUM's upcoming season;

1) Lets say the defense does improve some (it would be hard not to), are people allowing for even a slight drop off from the offense? Putting shoelaces under center and running a prostyle with guys built for the spread isn't going to be a seamless thing.

2) Looking back at last year the team went 7-5. 2 wins were double digit, all 5 losses were double digit. The 5 games that were 7 points or less were all wins for tsun and more specifically games where the offense was able to outscore the opponent. If the offense falls off some its going to be hard to replicate that amount of things going your way again I would think.
